Boy was I surprised today. I posted a thread a while back about a broken handle bail on my Convertible model 1010. After no luck in tracking one down, I decided to repair it temporarily with a bracket and two screws. After posting the repair here on the forum, I received an email from John Gregory...a very kind man. He asked for my address and said he would send me a new bail at no cost whatsoever. I was thrilled! I had no idea what else was in store for me.
Mr. Gregory then said he had an extra surprise for me and that he was headed to the UPS store to send it out. I had no idea what it could be. He told me to just wait and see. The suspense was killing me lol. After getting off work today, my wife called me on the way home and said quite a large package has arrived for me. I expected something nice...but not entirely nice as what he had gifted me with. So I come in the house, grab a knife and start tearing into the box carefully. I pull out a Hoover Convertible attachment set and was astounded. It was complete and in the Hoover box. Beautiful condition...and then I ran my hand farther into the bottom of the box... I feel something metal and heavy. I began to dig my way through the packing material and see a yellow hood...it looked a lot like a Convertible.......and it was! A model 1060! I immediately assembled it and fired it up. I am ecstatic! I have never been gifted anything so wonderful in my life! It is beautiful and I will cherish it forever in my collection. Mr. John Gregory is the kindest man I've came across in the "vacuum world" so far! So generous! And it seems like he's been that way to many members here! If I am ever in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, I will be stopping by Sweeper Central and shaking Mr. Gregory's hand myself. Thank you John! May God bless you! |

That is the first Vacuum I owned my neighbor threw it out when I was 5 years old I grabbed it from the trash and ran to my house with it . She called my mom telling her to watch out so I don't get shocked my mother told her Danny knows what he's doing . I had my Dad take me to our local Hoover store I purchased the switch replaced it and a few weeks later sold it back to her for $25.00 a few years ago she shipped it back to me . That's an amazing Hoover and one of my favorites .
John Gregory from Sweeper Central is an awesome guy he has gifted me many Hoovers & Royals that was so kind of him but that's who he is such a giving person and I think is the MOST knowledgable man when it comes to Hoover all I have to do is say a color and he knows the model and year it was made . He even knows every Hoover I own by model number something I rarely know . I have yet to find someone who knows Hoover inside and out like John Gregory does any Hoover part I ever need he's who to go to . I have sent him many NIB vintage convertibles and OEM rare Hoover parts and he always sends me something modern which I prefer . Don't get me wrong I love my older Hoovers but they were brand new ones I have purchased or was a family members passed down to me . John Gregory is a true asset to Hoover I have many machines he has designed for Hoover and I always make sure I get a John Gregory Hoover they are must haves for my collection . Nate I am so happy John has made your day enjoy that Hoover and have fun fixing your 1010 . Dan |

I always loved the 1060, just never thought I'd actually own one. I had always wanted 3 specific Convertibles...the 1010, the 1060, and the plastic base u4335. Two I have, only one left to go. John not only helped me fix my beloved 1010, but brought me closer to completing my dream Convertible collection. These old Hoovers are amazing. I just hope one day I can gift John with something as great as he gifted me.

I finally replaced the handle bail on my 1010. Took me a little while to figure it out. I actually had emailed John Gregory for assistance and he offered to call me and walk me through the whole process...if that isn't awesome, I don't know what is. But after getting home from work right before the sun came up, I didn't want to bother John at that time. I tried figuring it out on my own. After I figured out where the retaining clips were and how to release them, it was straightforward. It's so nice to have a new bail on this machine...it feels sturdy again. I will be sure to post pics sometime later today. And again, a special thanks to John Gregory for making it all possible.
