i want to get a bag-less vacuum around Christmas time but i am for the most part a bagged vacuum guy and haven't ventured to the bag-less side for awhile, so what i am looking for is an upright that is around or under $200, i have long and short pile carpets, hardwood and linoleum. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,Mark

Boy, that's a tough decision. It's hard to find a good cleaning bagless that also filters well, and especially one that can handle longer pile carpeting. Usually Dyson would be the way to go, but their brush rolls are awful for plush carpets. I would say your best bet is one the Hoover T-Series variants. The UH70605 has a brushroll on-off switch and is multi-cyclonic. I've used one before; it's pretty good for a bagless. It's not going to deep clean your carpets like your Simplicity, but it doesn't leave a whole lot to be desired.

Of course, there's always the bagless dust-cup Sanitaires such as the SC887B. While I haven't used one myself, I imagine the performance is similar to the shake-out models. Too bad hard-floor cleaning performance won't be fantastic. It could be an interesting collection addition however.

It's tough to have bagged standards in a bagless world. :)

Skip the Sanitaire we used them at work & the least bit of dust gets picked up & there goes the suction. Not to mention you have to shake the bag & make sure to take the entire unit outside for when you open the clips dust comes out. It's better to wait at least 5 minutes after shaking the bag to make sure the dust settles.

i'll look into hoovers. i consitered buying the windtunnel max a little while back but never did. Has anyone used one of shark rocket models, i was thinking about them, either the hybrid or the upright but have heard mixed reviews, i have a westinghouse unplugged and i don't mind cleaning the filters so a well designed single cyclonic vacuum isn't a problem me.

What about the Windtunnel Air? I'd have thought it was cheap to buy in the U.S?

The Windtunnel Air is a great little vacuum. I own one myself.

It's very powerful for it's size and weight. Only problem is it's not as easy to change over to Hose mode.

I think you'd be better off with the Windtunnel Air - even if there's a problem with the hose. The Vax equivalent is great in general for a compact, but also able to offer full size cleaning even if the dust bin capacity is small. It would be a far better one than the hand held thing.

at big lots, but they have referbished units. Im looking for a new unit only because some re manufactured units break down quickly from an unresolved problem and he warranty on those units are only 6 months.

If It Makes You Feel Better...

Have you tried a bagless Bissell? I heard good things about those.
