Anyone else having trouble with a slow / weak cord rewind on a Lux Guardian Platinum? Mine is about 18 months old. When it was brand new the cord retracted pretty forcefully, but lately it has gotten pretty weak and I need to help the cord along. The vacuum is still under warranty, and I may take it to be checked, but I wanted to see if this was a common problem or not.

I have one of the very first ones mine works perfectly.

Take it in a get it fixed I think it's cord winders in general I would prefer vacuums not have them .

The winder on my Platinum is working fine also. Do you hold onto the cord when you retract it so that it winds in a controlled fashion and doesn't snap back into the machine?

Yes, I hold onto the end of the cord to make sure it doesn't snap around while it's retracting. It used to be pretty strong and has recently gotten a lot weaker. I wasn't sure if using some talc on the cord would fix it so I wouldn't have to take it in for service.

Greg,

I used my Guardian today and the cord retracts quickly. The Guardian has a 15 year warranty so I would suggest you take it to the dealer to be checked out.

Dan, Gary:

Thanks for your advice. Looks like it's to my friendly, local Aerus shop it goes. Hopefully it's a quick, easy fix. I love my GP. It's one nice looking, quiet, powerful vacuum. Kudos to Aerus.

Always remember if it's under warranty don't touch it that can void the warranty .

Thanks Dan

I resisted the urge to try and figure out how it comes apart. Since it's under warranty, I'll let the shop take care of it.

Well, I dropped the GP off at the shop yesterday and the sales rep said that is the first one he's seen come back with a cord rewind problem, and that there is something definitely wrong with it and won't know for sure until he gets it on the workbench. It's supposed to be finished Friday.

I picked up my GP from the shop today. Sales rep said that the cord had gotten overlapped in one of the tracks. I guess when the cord was retracting one time something jumped track so to speak. Anyway, whatever he did to repair it seems to have worked and it now retracts pretty well, a lot better than it did.

Thanks Dan

I missed my Guardian Platinum while it was in the shop and glad it's back in action. I was using my Diamond Jubilee while the GP was in the shop, and while the Diamond is still a great vacuum, the Guardian Platinum is just a lot more refined and easier to use.

I hear ya about being easier to use I have been using my metal Ultra lux Electrolux and although it's a good machine nothing compares to a new Aerus Guardian Platinum and its ease of use .

New machines are improvements over the old vacuums you can really tell the difference in way more power and how it maneuvers around the house . I will always take a new machine over and old ones newer is just better period .

The Diamond Jubilee machines are tops for me. I think if I had a Platinum, I'd still take the DJ out for walks cool

Glad you got your cord winder fixed.

Had the cord winder replaced at no charge on my GP. Seems to work fine although the cord is now a different color. Who cares as long as it works!
