Hi all. I posted a while back with problems with my Hoover English Commercial's agitator, nozel, and belt protector. Somewhere along the way a malfunction was breaking belts again and again. You gave me some excellent advise on cleaning the interior of the brushroll mount inside the vacuum throroughly. Upon doing this I found that there is much wear on the locking brackets. I lubricated them. The agitator seats well now but started to pull down the motor again. I shut it off and inspected the area again. I noticed some play in the right side, up and down, of the agitator, loosening the locked position of the bracket. Aparently the rotation of the agitator has a tightening effect perhaps because of its age, and it locks down the bearings and loosens the lock. The only thing I could think of was backing the ends of the agitator up counterclockwise. This had the effect of loosening the hold on the rotation of the agitator and it also caused the loosened ends to brace the agitator firmly in place, and no play being left in the lock levers. This is a crude adjustment I'm sure, but I am cautiously running it for short periods of time, don't want a violent breakdown to occur. The nozel is very worn, but this is a great member of my collection. Any ideas welcome! Later!

The belt protector on the Hoover Commercial 918

I have what seems to be a working agitator in place and belted. I am slowly running it for longer periods of time each session. I need to ask wisdom from those of you who would be able to guide me regarding the belt protection latch on the Commercial Hoover 918. What is its shape supposed to be? How is it supposed to fit the nozzle? It seems to have an awful lot of play as if sprung? It drags the carpet in a problematic way. What can be done? I appreciate the help!
