It has a 7-year warranty on it -
I have to say that my initial impression is that it seems to be very well made…
Only time will tell, but I will give it a work out -
I love the idea of an Electric Mini Pet Brush - I really wanted it for that a reason - That and the lift away will make doing all of our carpeted stairs very easy...

Tomorrow I was really impressed with this machine I had to buy one found it on eBay NIB for $99.00 with free shipping .

I don't think the seller realized what they had so I snatched it up ;)

It looks amazing I have an older shark and it was OK I think this will really sell well for
them .

What a cool-looking vacuum!

niclonnic's profile picture
Shark has really stepped up their game with this vacuum. This is arguably the most innovative vacuum ever created. I love the idea of it, being able to truly convert from an upright to a canister, with a powered brush roll and all! It'll be nice for getting around and UNDER furniture, the latter of which is an impossible feat with uprights.

This machine claims to have MORE SUCTION and BETTER CARPET CLEANING versus the $600 Dyson DC65?? This is madness! It amazes me that even Shark has bested Dyson's best of the best.

I, too, love the idea of a small, motorized power head. I don't think any vacuum manufacturer has produced any of these, with one exception. Back in the late '90s, Fantom Technologies released the Fantom Lightning canister vacuum. One optional accessory for that vacuum was a "Mini Powerhead" which featured a brush roll powered by its own independent motor. It's pretty cool that Shark is bringing back this design after all these years!

My only concern is that the vacuum is still single-cyclonic, meaning that it has to rely on the two filters behind the dust cup to trap the finer dust. The original Shark Navigator used 21-cyclone separation technology. However, starting with the Navigator Lift Away, they switched to single-cyclonic. Every Shark vacuum following the release of the Navigator Lift Away has included this technology. Why did they move to this design? I have no idea; you would have to ask Shark that.

That concern aside, enjoy your new Shark Rotator Powered Lift Away!

Motorized powerheads

Nick there has been quite a few brands with mini powerheads, Electrolux, Tristar (aerus owned), Rainbow, Filter queen had one at one point, Kenmore, panasonic. Silver king, patriot, simplicity and riccar Use a wessel werk HEB 160 There may be more i don't know about.

Back on topic though. It looks pretty nice for a modern vacuum, and pretty versatile as well.

While not the most innovative vacuum ever (Hoover Dial-A-Matic, for example) or the first 'powered lift-away' (Sanyo Transformomax, for example) or the first powered mini-nozzle since the 90s (Sears, Rainbow, etc), it is a neat vacuum! A little on the bulky side, but the design is very innovative! wink

I'm sure it's not the only thing out there that can out-clean a Dyson,Niclonnic! Not saying that the DC65 is absolutely terrible at cleaning carpets, but it still isn't the best...tongue-out

Only time will tell is right, that 7 year warranty doesn't sound so nice when you're dealing with Shark's call center in India! surprised

While it is true that many canisters have a mini electric power power nozzle for stairs and furniture, I think this shark is the first one in a long time to offer this in an upright… I think at one time there was a kenmore upright with and electric hose and electric mini power nozzle, but that was many, many years ago…

I also think that this is the only upright that ever had a detachable electric power nozzle on the wand like the shark does…

Tonight I shall clean and give it a little workout… Had meeting last night and was tied up…

EVERY Aerus/Electrolux upright has always been sold with an electric mini powernozzle with every
model sold with attachments . They have been the only upright brand to continually use that attachment
since the introduction in the 80's .

Tell me about the switch on the handle

Obviously one of the switch settings is to turn off the brushroll, but do either of the settings reduce the motor speed for less suction? I'm sure there's a bleeder valve on the handle or the hose somewhere as on the other models, but it's still a lot of suction for some of my older rugs.

I wouldn't waste my money on a Shark/Euro-Pro

Not to sound like a troll but you really couldn't pay me to own one of those plastic trash heaps. They are very chincy made and as far as cleaning performance, there are many more machines in the world that can out do it some even cheaper and all more reliable. Perhaps the biggest problem is after the big warranty is over your machine is now considered disposable the company won't sell you parts to fix it outside of belts and filters which brings me to my second problem, rotator, navigator etc. All baggless and therfore useless.

You don't have to listen to me but you would be doing yourself a favor if you would save your money and buy something else like a Royal or Panasonic or even a bagged Bissell would be better than the shark!

Does this model have the tiny little brush roll? If so, does hair wrap around the brush roll rather than being sucked into the disposal bin? If I remember correctly, the Shark didn't do well in Consumer Reports pet hair tests, so I wondered if that was a typical experience for Shark users.

I love the looks of it if only it were bagged and not bagless. For those who own bagless, what is your method of emptying them? A long time ago, I had a bagless back in the late 90s called Fatom Fury and I HATED it! I always took it outside to empty it but that was not always easy because of the weather. I would empty it into a bag, bring that bag back inside and into the garage and into the bin, then I would have to clean the outside of the Fantom from the dust that was all over the outside of the bin from emptying it.

While the Fantom Fury is one of the best cyclonic uprights in history, all bagless machines have trouble with emptying! I have NO idea how Dyson got the British Allergy Foundation's award for keeping Asthma down!

The best way is to empty it into a plastic shopping bag, which defeats the purpose of bagless! I just dump my Fantoms in the trash bin, I don't have allergies (Well, maybe a Dyson allergy or too! other than that I don't know of any allergies i have! tongue-out).

Post# 302902 , Reply# 31   10/24/2014 at 01:18 (3,471 days old) by marcusprit ()

It doesn't defeat the object of being bagless. There is not bag in the cleaner. You can empty the bin after every use. I find it easy. You just have to hold a bag around the bin tightly then you're not exposed to the dust.
In a bagged machine apart from having to buy bags and filters the dust can be rotting in the bag for months.
I still love my Sebo and Miele but the Dyson has become my daily driver it's awesome! :)

Fantom Fury was the best? I thought the filtration was just awful. The entire outside of the vacuum would slowly get coated in a layer of dust as you vacuumed. I always felt like the bin never really felt like it made a tight seal...

As far as emptying it - I did the same thing. I emptied it into a plastic shopping bag, but things would always stick inside in the bin and you would have to tap it hard and put your hands in to get stuck on lint/dust out of the top inside of the bin...I didn't want to just dump the contents straight into the trash because I knew that every time someone threw trash in the bin, a cloud of dust would fly up.

I'm trying to remember but I think it was around Thanksgiving 98 that I got it. I could be off a couple of years...I think I had it for 2 or 3 years and when I finally got a bagged vacuum after that it was like this huge relief. At that point I said I would never have another bagless but it looks like over the years major improvements have been made, so I dunno. I have to admit this vacuum looks really cool especially since it can go to canister and canisters are my fav.
.

In my experience...

niclonnic's profile picture
I do have allergies, and have always had bagless vacuums. Regardless of which vacuum I have, I always empty the canister into my kitchen trash can, even if it's not full. I sometimes sneeze when doing this.

I don't like having dirt, dust and dog hair sitting in a bag for a few weeks. It could make bags smell.

Marcus, if you use a plastic bag on a bagless cleaner to avoid the dust cloud, then you are still using a bag. thus, you will need to obtain plastic bags instead of paper ones.

The Fury was not THE best, but better than many. The Thunder takes that award.

Emptying the canister Question:

mark40511's profile picture
So aside from the dust flying, is emptying this canister easy? Like literally just dump and that's it? Does dirt stick in the areas where dirt enters the vacuum and hard to reach areas inside the bin? It did in the Fantom I had. You had to tap it hard to get dirt that was stuck to come out, and even then you had to put your hands in the bin to get the hard to reach areas......and when the bin was off, a layer of dust/lint would be caked on the holes where the dirt comes into the vacuum itself......I forgot about that. I had to clean that too......It was such a pain.......I almost want one it looks so cool but I keep having flashbacks of owning what I consider to be the WORST vacuum I ever owned. (No offense to anyone who likes Fantom's.

Post# 303112 , Reply# 36   10/25/2014 at 15:04 (3,469 days old) by marcusprit ()

Yes some dust and dirt will get trapped in the top of the bin. It does with all bagless cleaners. That is one of the drawbacks. But if you empty the bin after every use its not too bad.

Post# 303137 , Reply# 37   10/25/2014 at 17:35 (3,469 days old) by starryblues4u (Charlotte, NC)
emptying the bin

starryblues4u's profile picture
is quite easy. everything falls right out. I put my shark through hell today. I did a thorough clean. There was a lot of crap in the bin. I emptied it out and everything went right in the garbage. Nothing stuck in corners or anywhere on the bin. I then washed the bin out to make sure that it would be nice and clean. This is one of the easiest bins to clean from any bagless I have had.

Super-sweeper, Dyson recommends that, for allergy sufferers, the bin should be encased in a bag and then emptied. But if you're emptying a bagless bin into a bag, then you might as well have a bagged vacuum.

Plastic bags are very easy to obtain, whereas with a bagged vacuum, you have to find the correct brand and type of bag your vacuum takes. This can get expensive.

Marcusprit, yes, that is true for all bagless vacuums. Many vacuum manufacturers make it easy to dismantle the dust bin for cleaning the shroud, cones etc. I empty the bin after every use, even when it's not full.

sorry I wasn't paying attention to your location. LOL.

Although I don't need it since I have a Rainbow (that I LOVE) and my Epic 6500, I'm so wanting one of these for some reason! And that's very odd for me to even consider a bagless vacuum other than Rainbow.....but they do look really cool..As long as the hepa filters aren't outrageous and need to be changed a lot. I also read that the belts don't need to be changed either; they replace the entire head if it goes bad, not just the belt. As long as they do not let dirt escape while vacuuming. Although on one of those pics posted by the OP, I did seem to notice some dirt collecting on the outside of the vacuum...the one showing the back of the vacuum itself in the upright position. If you look closely it looks like dust on the wands themselves.

I think the Hepa is a lifetime filter. As for the belt i think it's covered in the 7 year warranty.
It's supposed to be a sealed unit so dust shouldn't escape. But Shark informercials are very misleading! Sharks by name and Sharks by nature! :)

I bought one of these two weeks ago after getting rid of my Dyson DC65 Complete...I use the tools a lot and trying to do that with a Dyson is a real hassle. I absolutely LOVE the Shark..especially since the powerhead still works when you lift off the main vacuum unit to get underneath chairs and coffee tables. The Dyson did a great job on carpeting but truthfully, the clearance was so poor that you couldn't reach under many items of furniture without using the wand and one of the two on-board tools...none of which are ideal if you need to vacuum a large amount of space underneath a kitchen table or other piece of furniture. I also really enjoy having the controls to the vacuum at my fingertips. The electric mini-powerhead is awesome on my sectional sofa that my dog covers in hair on a daily basis. My primary vacuum is still my central vac with Hide a Hose but I'm really enjoying this new Shark (never thought I'd say that about a Shark product)!

I had a 20 percent coupon at BB&B so I bought the Shark Rotator Professional lift-away (not the powered lift away).

Just as I feared, emptying the canister is a P A I N because it's not as simple as just holding it over the trash and dumping it, because fine dirt gets everywhere inside the canister and you have to shake, bang and tap causing more dust to fly. I hate the attachments. The dusting brush is a complete joke. The hose is stiff and you have to stand directly beside the vacuum or it will tip over. I decided I'm just using this to vacuum carpets and use my Rainbow to clean everything else. Additionally, I use my rainbow to suck the Shark canister clean because I don't like emptying it

On a positive note. It is light and easy to use vacuuming carpets. The suction is really good. That foam filter gets very dirty quickly. It says wash it every 3 months but I'm thinking once a month if not more often than that. You can wash the collection bin which is good.

All in all, it's good for carpets but for everything else it's terrible (at least in my opinion)... I'm trying to figure out how this thing gets the massive amounts of good reviews. This doesn't even come close to being the best vacuum I've ever used.
