Hey out there . . . Does anyone have any knowledge of how well Kirby carpet shampoo can remove a blood stain? Our daughter called this morning and asked if I still have my carpet shampoo supplies? Of course. They have a beautiful greyhound (I call him my granddog)who had an accident last night. As he was out in the yard to do business before bedtime, he cut is paw pretty badly on something, bad enough for my son-in-law to take him to the 24-hr. animal hospital.

Well, as he came in, he tracked blood mostly on the tile floor, but also got some on the carpet. The tile cleaned easily, and my daughter says she got most of it out of the carpet while it was fresh and her husband was with the dog at the vet's. My daughter says that if we look closely, we can still see a faint mark in the carpet. She asked if I could come over and shampoo it.

I have a Hoover extractor, but I don't want to put too much water on their nice carpet. I think I'll take over the Kirby Sentria with the carpet shampooer and try that with the Kirby foam. I also have Kirby pre-treatment for stains. Does anyone have any experience with how well the Kirby foam can remove a tough stain such as blood?

For a blood stain I wouldn't use any kind of shampoo. I use straight hydrogen peroxide and an old towl.

I Agree with Sbakerde. No need to drag your heavy Sentria over there. Hydrogen Peroxide and a clean towel or rag should do the trick.

one of those machines that extracts the dirty water .The Kirby will only scrubb the blood into the carpet even futher making it worse

Before I did anything, I took over Oxi-clean carpet stain remover, sprayed it on the stains, waited about three minutes, then blotted it up. I gave it a second round, and the stain was all cleaned up. At first, I tested a small spot to check for color fastness, and all was well. I also took over Kirby stain remover, but I didn't need it. The Oxi-clean works the same as hydrogen peroxide.

In addition to the Kirby Rug Renovator, I also have two Hoover spin scrub extractors, but I didn't have to go that route--maybe later when spring cleaning rolls around.

Blood is a protein stain. You want to blot/flush with cool water so as not to set the stain. My cat had a very bloody bowel movement on the carpet. I used my extractor and carpet cleaning chemicals with cool to luke warm water. No stain left behind and the accident was cleaned up soon after it happened.

Same thing can be done by wetting the carpet using a bucket and sponge or old towel and vacuuming up the water and blood with any vacuum designed for "WET" pick up. may have to do that a few times to completely remove the stain if you don't have an spotter or carpet cleaner that uses a wet cleaning/extraction method.

Thanks kirby 519 for the information. Even though I got out the stain this time, nothing says that it can't happen again. If so, your suggestions are filed away in my memory bank for use at that time.
