I apologize for reporting it. On first read it seemed pretty outrageous. Not until I had hit enter, and went back and re-read it did I get your intent.

Sorry about that.

apology accepted but not nessasary. it was a thread that could easilybe takin out of context I just get so frustrated with these things. vacs that cost 30 dollars at Walmart does anyone really collect or even care for these at all honestly? I highly doubt it. I mean this is just a rant but my mother bought a brand new dirt devil feather lite and it hasint been a year and I emptied the bin made sure the hose was free of debre. cleaned the filter and it just spread the dirt around. these vacs are almost as toys they may work well or just passable a first. but they are throw aways. one day I will take out my frustration on these three space wasters after getting my mom a vacuum that will last her awhile and one that's not a bagless and prferrabley a direct air or a older bypass. such as a wintunnel or a dimension or an elite.

Older than the trees, younger than the mountains, when all else fails, KIRBY will be there for you...Now, forever, and always!smile Every model has its own magic, therefore, learn its magic. They say, " If you are a slave to the compass, you will have the freedom of the sea." Then be a slave to the KIRBY, and you'll have the freedom of THE SUPERIOR KIRBY CLEAN! It is not a myth, but a truism immersed in the deepest of reality's! Kirby is not a cliché, but a hallmark of the finest distinction of the highest merit, you will not find mediocrity, nowhere to be found, in its superb name.laughing

Its great how no matter the thread you can make it a Kirby ad calem :-) I love Kirbys however my mother hates the fact you have to take something off just to put a hose on it doesn't bother me you have to put attachments on anyhow. I do wish I had a hoses for my Kirbys tho. I've got a hose coupler for my sanitary 7 which I have paired with an old rainbow hose but other than that it's the only machine I can use it for.

Thanks Nathan, I do believe it is a talent. Kirby should put me on its payroll, but of course, I will gladly continue to do it for free. I see you have a Kirby Heritage, I have these attachments for it that I don't really need. If you want them, we can work something out.

very tempting

My Kirby heritage would look good sporting all that gear. We will have to crunch some numbers

"does anyone really collect or even care for these at all honestly?"

Maybe so.

But why does anyone collect anything? What's really the driving force behind many of the vac collectors on this board?

I'll admit I cringe when I see the youngsters on this board waxing poetic about their "vingage" Fantoms and Dysons! "Vintage" to me is the Kirby Dual Sanitronic 80 ... or a 1968 Hoover Convertible. But then, maybe a guy in his 60s cringes at MY vacuum ideals, and the "improved" plastic handle on the Kirby D80, and the plastic hood of the Hoover Convertible 1060, and feels the BEST era for vacuums was the Hoover model 825!

I think most of us index our soft spot for "vintage" to the best years of our childhoods, whenever that might have been.

So ... don't entirely trash the plastivacs! Show them a little love. They may just be SOMEONE's dream machine.

There's no better way to put that other than 'vingage', Matt! tongue-out

I'll admit, while the great Kirbyrama patrols the the house in massive numbers,I do have a soft spot for some plastics, mainly 90s Hoovers. Although I have a stockpile of newer stuff, too!tongue-out

Thanks, Nathan

Your frustration is probably why I gave away my plastic modern upright that I bought at Walmart (Meijers?). I've never seen any $30 vacuums in those stores, however. You are doing good to get out for less than $90!

I recently moved, and on my last trip across town in my small car, there was no more room for my (?) brand vacuum. I didn't really care, as it was not an impressive piece of machinery.

It gave me an excuse to replace it with something REAL, like my "new" Hoover Constellation. And that is how I came to be here.

So I am new and still learning the players and their quirks! ;)

Hey, we got ourselves a fresh fish here, welcome to the forum, Robert!tongue-out You've came to the right place if your looking for quirks, glitches and foul-ups. Why, you could even say you've broken down at Malfunction junction...made a pit stop at hiccups and fault Avenue. Well, all we want to do here is help you along in your vacuum collecting mania...just kidding you, man, but really, welcome to the forum! smile

Alex, about the attachments, you should have asked, I'm not a mind reader...don't you know!tongue-out

Matt, don't worry! Ol' folks won't fault you one bit, why, you wouldn't see them grimace or wince once. As a matter of fact, they would be in complete agreement with you. After all, quality is quality...KIRBY quality that is!!!laughing

I once was at the local thrift store and saw a Heritage II marked as "old time vacuum" You know a 20 something priced and marked that one. First I was like that isn't that old. I have one just like it and it is 20 yrs my junor. Man did that make me feel old. (I was about 43 at the time) then I laughed and walked away thinking, If you think that is old? you should see some of the kirby's I have. They are even older than I am. Pre 1966

I saw a Kenkart with all the attachments in a 1980s Kmart bag, but it looked as if it sat in a barn since the fabulous 80s! $25 was a joke, especially considering the not-so-smooth motor. I'll be back in a few days to see if it is on sale,I could never let a Kenmore in need down! wink
