I found this at the thrift store today for $5. It says "Custom Convertible" on it. Can someone give me some history on this machine?

This is my first convertible BTW

Here are some pictures of me cleaning it, etc.

Bottom

I love how it has the Hoover "slogan" on the bottom plate.

A good cleaning and a new belt and it runs like new!

Great Find!

Hi Logan, great looking vac and quite the performer! I have one and it won a cleaning competition at the St. Louis convention year before last for vacs in that time segment with a beater bar. As you know it's an all metal base, and was manufactured from 1973-75. It also has the rear tool conversion for the hose attachment, and it kicks up to a higher speed for the tools, although still not a great performer with the tools. The brush strips are still obtainable if they are worn, but it took a lot of use before they needed to be replaced. Nice model to start your convertible collection! Enjoy!

Wow! Nice machine. That was the top of the line Convertible in its day. You have a later one since the metal base has cut outs. Earlier versions have a solid metal base with no holes. Hoover tried to save money and weight by cutting some of the metal out. They were still very sturdy machines and will clean your carpet very well. It is all original down to the bag jacket and cord. Thanks for the photos. I know that you will be very happy with it. Hey, bring it to North Canton in August when we have our convention this year. It will be a homecoming!

Good Find Logan!

That really is a good find. Does the light work? I defiantly have a preference for Hoovers with a headlight. Nice to see what I'm vacuuming :) I must say i also like the color of that machine. I really do like beige or two-tone beige machines. Something about it that's claming and restful. I just can't get into some of those strong colors of other convertibles. A good friend told me that he only uses his Hoover as uprights and doesn't bother with above the floor cleaning with them. Suction evidently isn't the best. He likes his Celebrity for that. I use my Hoover that way too. Maybe you can touch up the handle a bit. Otherwise it looks like a great machine. Enjoy your new toy! Paul

Can't beat the price, either! And I'm sure it runs as great as it looks. Congrats!

Thanks!

I appreciate the feedback. Yes, the headlight works now after I replaced the bulb. The original bulb had a thick layer of dirt on it and it was blown.
