I recently bought a very nice Olympia One for only $5, complete with its power nozzle, hose and most of the attachments (the dusting brush is the only one missing). The vacuum works extremely well, with great suction.
However, I find that its cordwinder isn't working, and that its cord has been wrapped with tape as well.
How hard is it to go into this generation of cordwinders to replace the cord and get everything working right again? I've been into a Model L cordwinder, which I got working perfectly again, but the later "built-in" cordwinders are a lot different, at least from the outside.
Does anyone have any instructions or tips for getting into this thing and getting it right again?
The newer winder is"different".It's MUCH easier! But with both--CAUTION,the spring can cut you in half a second if it gets loose!!On the Olympia style--Remove top trim(3 screws)-remove winder assy screws(1 bottom,2 top)-gently bump and pull winder back and pull off 2 wire tabs-loosen 4 cover screws, hold cord in place before removing cover, remove cover, unwind reel to TAKE TENSION OFF SPRING.It should then be a simple matter of a clip & screws to get to center of reel with push on terminals for cord. You might then use a donor vac or new cords are available. If spring is not neatly wound on its reel you may have to replace remembering the above CAUTION.(When it goes back together the locking pawl must be in 'unlocked' position.)
