This is the old style button release cord reel for the first generation 5055 bagged machines. Sears Parts Direct shows the part being NLA for the models I have that use this cord reel, then you see this. Looks like the same item I found at a vacuum shop in Pennsylvania. Weird.

Awfully expensive too.

Always been available from Panasonic. That price is high. Though I'm used to wholesale. The locking cord winders that don't use a button are the hard ones to find. They were more exclusive to sears.

I have revived a couple of these by spritzing a very small amount of Triflow teflon lubricant into the bearing area of the reel. It seems to free up balky ones enough to retract smoothly. Hard as the pull to retract cord reels are to find you can bet I breathed a big sigh of relief too.

I think I have one at my parent house somewhere in the basement and one from magicord. Now I see is a good thing to keep that piece.
