Ok so I would like to get a new kirby sentria II before the new model is released, but the dealers in my area are fly by night kind of operations. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good dealer that charges closer to retail and if they would be willing to ship. Any help would be great.

The wholesale cost on a new Sentria II is less than $600. Offing $750 CASH to a Kirby dealer should get you a machine. There is a Kirby dealer who was going door to door (in St. James, of all places, we have a vacuum factory that half the town works for). I let him in (steak knives) and offered him $700 for my Sentria II just a year ago. He took it. I think he needed gas money.

Tom

I told the guy just that, I said the machines cost you less than $600 and he laughed and said your sources are not right. He offered 1,450 with shampooed, zip year supply of bags bullshit, bullshit, bullshit. I of course laughed and said that's the price they used to put on the side of the box. This is not life or death, I'm by no means a kirby or nothing collector it would be nice to have the last of the generation series.

I would start....

with Bill, who is a supporting member on this website. His username on here is a007kirbyman. You can send him a private msg. since you're a supporting member as well. He gives good deals on parts I know and is a real nice guy to talk with.

If you don't mind dealing with a Canadian company, I would try Hickman & Hickman in Woodbridge, Ontario. This is a family owned business that has been around since the early 1950's, & I have personally dealt with them for years for all my Kirby parts & supplies. Very reputable & professional people. From what I understand, the father opened the business & eventually passed it down to his son, Eddie. I don't know what their pricing is or whether they will ship, but you could always call & find out.

I know the Kirby Distributor in Reno will take $750 cash at the office, hell he'll probably take $700 at the end of the month just to get one more on the books.... Shipping is another matter entirely, and he's a, how does one put this, jackass to his salespeople but the reality is 7-750 is what he gets after commissions and finance company discounts so he'll cry about it, but he'll take it.

Don't Kirby Dealers have territories......

pr-21's profile picture
Unless things have changed, Kirby Dealers had dealer territories and strictly inforced them. I knew a really nice, but small dealership and the gentleman's mom worked in the office. She actually sold a cleaner to someone in PA and shipped it. Somehow Kirby Headquarters found out and they lost their dealer license. He got his from the larger distributor in Dayton at the time. Anyway they were nice to deal with, but lost their right to sell Kirby's by not staying in their territory...

That has been at lease 15 years or so ago.....

a007kirbyman is a great guy, I actually had some questions after the dealership closed and he was very nice and very helpful. Again this was sometime ago, actually they were selling G4's at the time.....whatever time frame that was.....

I can see

How shipping ourt of territory might pose a problem. Thanks so far for all the info.

Kirby distributors do have territories

But the strict enforcement is against one distributor sending his sales crew into another's territory to solicit business.
Unless things have changed, and they may well have, there is no foul if a customer approaches a dealer outside their sales area to purchase.
