At one time in my life it was the Hoover Junior and Senior - I think most UK collectors "from Hooverland Yahoo Group" were the same - you can't just be happy with the generic standard ones that sold the highest or are available to find the most of - either second hand online or refurb'd by a fellow collector.
The soft bag colours, designs, patterns, change of switches or headlight arrangements - over and above the beater bar and other little "improvements" as the years go by - these are the things that one notices with Hoover's classic uprights. In turn I found it hard to just collect "one Hoover Junior". |

"In turn I found it hard to just collect "one Hoover Junior"."
So true, despite the fact people think I worship the ground that my Turbopower 2's stand on, I do LOVE Hoover Juniors and I started collecting those recently...I have quite a few Juniors at the moment and once you have them in those fetching colours lined up against each other it is hard to stop getting more! Lol. |

Despite the fact that you've never used one.
For me, it's the Electrolux 500 series and Twin Turbo's. I love the lot and if I had the patience, time, space and money, I'd attempt to collect the whole series. I think they really got the balance between carpet performance and tool performance on these, much more so than Hoover. Although the Electrolux's weren't quite as good on carpet as the Hoover's, the stronger hose suction and more convenient tools made up for that, and you good great performance from both in one machine. |

I actually slightly prefer the Twin Turbo's over the 500's Nar, but only just. The Twin Turbo's were just a bit more sturdy and had that nice, chunky handle. This post was last edited 09/10/2014 at 13:05 |

The Problem I had with the Z500 series from Electrolux was that the brushrolls made an awful, overwhelming racket! Despite the motor being quiet. The hose suction was not great and not that much better than the Hoover Junior or Turbopower in my opinion. The butterfly tool was a innovative design but was awful for cleaning upholstery.

I actually quite like the butterfly tool - I snapped up a few when I went to Wilko - as you know they supply accessories from Electrolux.
The Zanussi Airspeed Lite has a retro feel to it from the Z500 though - tool to floor dial - I find it actually allows lighter gliding when the brush roll is at its most closest to the carpet and alleviates less strain to push the vacuum across the floor.

What really can be more beautiful than the twenty's thru forty's...it's hard to imagine. It was as if some kind of height was reached, and now it has been completely cheapened away. The world really has been turned upside down. What is right is now made wrong, and as always it's first victim is conscience, and without conscience how can there ever be true quality? But most thankfully KIRBY has remained true, they persist in their craftsmanship, producing one of the finest machines ever made. Now, I think I'm going to carve me up a ham and do me some grinding...Why, I just might even suck me up some bed bugs, too! |
