So - I had stop at Walmart to pick up a prescription, and since it was not yet ready, I wandered around the vacuum section…
And what do I find with the rest us the usual suspects, but a new Shark Upright Vacuum... A Sample was not set up yet, so I had nothing to really check out but the packaging… It does look interesting to say the least... |

But I'm yet to see any videos, infomercials or the like. It's a brilliant concept... I vacuum that is either a real upright or a real canister, I know if TV Shop decide to bring it here it will help them further wipe the floor with Dyson. They have already beat them in Choice magazine and in the most trusted vacuum brand as well.

Danorob1, one thing I noticed is in picture 4, it looks as if the vacuum is set up as a canister with the powerhead actually running. If it REALLY does that, then wow!! That would certainly be a first for an upright vacuum to TRULY convert into a canister vacuum, & not just a straight suction vacuum. For me, I might just have to buy it for that reason alone! And the LED headlights on the powerhead is nice too.

It really owes a small debt to Sanyo who created the Transformax a decade or two ago. Though the Transformax only had a turbo carpet nozzle, it too was a kind of upright that converted to a canister.
There are other precedents, including a convertible vac created by Korea's Daewoo made famous by a hilarious QVC disaster demonstration in the UK.... See clip below... CLICK HERE TO GO TO eurekaprince's LINK |

The QVC "vacuum demo" is as good as the Abbott&Costello one! |

I was back at Walmart just to see if they put one out on display yet -
Nope - But I did Scan one for the price - $298.00 - I think the price is a little high for Walmart - At that price it may have the same fate as the Dyson did, which was pulled from the shelves and put on clearance for lack of sales - Dan |

Reminds me very much of the "system chassis" accessory that Vorwerk was offering in some countries a few years ago. With the handle and power nozzle removed, the main body of the upright could be placed inside the chassis (which incorporates its own cord winder). Connect the electrified hose and wand, and you have a true power nozzle canister.
Pics of both setups: |
