I've noticed no one here has ever brought up this yet. Is it true that Hoover only marketed the "Dirt Beastie" promotional novelty toy in Canada?

I also want to think he does not squeak - itself the kind of sound dogs like.

The hang tag details his neat story over the plight of being vacuumed up by Hoover vacuums, leading to the extinction of Dirt Beasties such as him. He says: "Thanks for giving me a home. Now that you've bought a new Hoover cleaner, I'll probably be the only Dirt Beastie in the house!"

He adds: "Your new Hoover cleaner is my worst enemy! It nabs Dirt Beasties everywhere, even in the deepest corner crevices. Please take good care of me. With all the Hoover cleaners out there, I may become extinct."

That's a fun, cute thing to do with vacuum advertising! I would've made it smaller though, and maybe made from rubber instead of cotton, would defiantly last longer if it ended up a dog toy! laughing

Rubber Dirt Beastie-are you sure it would last longer than the cotton one if it was a dog toy?Remember the tag says to take care of him-If he was a dog toy-just like with the Hoover vac-would be extinct-instead of in the hoover bag-the rubber Dirt Beastie would be "preshredded" by the dog making it easier for Hoover to devour him!Now if they would make some sort of Beastie thing for Kirby,Sebo,Rainbow(drowned Beastie),Royal,Meile,'Lux and so one-you get the picture!

If you don't mind me asking, what is it that makes you think this "Dirt Beastie" toy was only sold & marketed in Canada? Have you never run across one at any stores in America?? Maybe this might be a question for you to pose on Hoover's Facebook page....

Maybe the Canadians are the only people who see the humor in a stuffed dust mite? Just asking ...... Americans like their winners. Tough to sell a stuffed rendition of something that always looses.

Gunnar would have the stuffing out that in minutes. Then you could vacuum up the remains. Certainly the more realistic advert, lol.

True Tolivac, but Kevlar promotional items aren't that affordable! At-least the rubber Dirt Beastie could have a squeaker in it. Without a purpose as a dog toy, these beasties are likely to be thrown in a closet or put on a shelf! surprised

Kevlar wouldn't stop Gunnar or Karly. Somehow they managed to move a watermelon that was sitting on the kitchen floor across the family room, through the dog door and out into the back yard. I cannot even imagine how he got a watermelon through the dog door! Gunnar will chew a steak bone until he has eaten every bit of it. A bone from a rib-eye steak is gone in twenty minutes. And you think Kevlar would deter a dog?

I used to say that teenagers were the most destructive force in nature but Karly and Gunnar is forcing me to re-evaluate that position. The way they tear through things like my fiancées high heels (oh, that gets expensive fast!) I don't think Kevlar would stop them.
