was at walmart today looking for zorbes unrelated topic to be descused on a diffrent forum and a lady gave me this sales pitch about how sharks were the best vacuum in the world! when i told her that was her opinion and that I preferd a direct air machine she became furious and steamed off. what is it about the shark that people are drawn to and why are they so defensive even more then dyson folks

What are we drawn to?

* Better cleaning than Dyson
* Longer warranty (here in Australia)
* Better value for money
* Easy to Use

I wouldn't say they are the best vacuum, but for the money (Around $500 here in Aus) you'd be hard pressed to find something that cleans better. We have few powerbrush options here in Australia, and not too many upright options either.

I think that Direct air does work better, but it isn't what the market commands so Shark haven't gone down that path. I think you folks should be proud that a relatively small US Family owned company is sticking it to the billionaire JD and other big conglomerates.

Well too bad for her then!

She ran-into some customer at Walmart who knew what they were talking about! If I were there, I would have told her how short the motors run, and how poorly designed their single cyclonic filtration is. I can't see why she would be so mad, you shouldn't be mad because someone simply prefers something else, right?

It's BRAINWASHING! The same thing happened with the Fantoms. I thought the Fantom was the best vacuum in the world. That is proof that infomercials can fool you. The Shark infomercials are cleverly designed to fool anyone that knows nothing about vacuums. I think the main reason why the Shark is still rated high is because the people who rate it haven't actually used it for long. Will they write another positive review on it, 3 years from now? Probably not. Every Shark I come across is NASTY, with TONS of dust over the filters. If somebody is looking for a vacuum, ask the experts. Not all, but most naive vacuum reviews I find unhelpful. Some give it a bad review because the belt broke. So they didn't know that eventually, the belt would have to be replaced. They also expect a $50 vacuum to not have any drawbacks.

My thoughts on Shark

I think they're pretty good machines, and nice alternatives to those who can't afford a Dyson. However, although Euro-Pro claims that they "never lose suction," most models are not multi-cyclonic, so the filters get dirty quickly.

My grandmother owns a Shark Navigator Lift-Away Deluxe vacuum. When I visited her house last summer, I decided to use it real quick, and when I went to empty it, the pre-motor filter was also nasty. That sounds like a pain in the butt to have to wash that filter so often. Euro-Pro suggests once every 3 months, but I think once a month would be more accurate.

I've also found that there's no easy way to clean the brush rolls on Shark vacuums. There's no way to take apart the vacuum head, so cleaning tangles can be difficult. And if the belt somehow broke, the entire head would have to be replaced.

You mean for those who can't afford a KIRBY, but even then I'd take a dime-store Convertible over Shark! tongue-out
