Thanks again to Tom, for this beautiful completely rebuilt and in perfect condition Fantom Fury!
I've installed a new headlight bulb and brand new brush roll in which I scored off of eBay. I'm enjoying this machine so much! Attached are some photos and a short video. Sorry in advance for the poor lighting its 10:00 at night.

This color in particular is special to me. My parents bought me this exact model one year for Christmas. I was only 5 years old. Such a great Mom & Dad! I'm very happy to FINALLY own this one, I'm beginning to have Fantom a craving....I think a Thunder will be next! 😜 Here's one more pic, just cleaned the collection bin and it's beautiful!

I own two Dyson's myself. The DC07 and DC40 To me they are both great cleaning hard floors but American homes usually have thick pile carpeting and LOTS of it. The Dyson's seem to be lacking on cleaning carpet very well. That's just my opinion of course. To each their own.

I've never used a Dyson DC01 since I live in America so I cant judge, however I'm always totally amazed at how much dirt and cat hair that comes out of the rugs every time I use the Fantom. Haven't had the same results with either of my Dyson's unfortunately....I will say that I use my DC40 like every single day on the hardwood floors because its the best bare floor cleaning upright I've found, and believe me I've tried them all. I'm just not a canister person so the DC40 is great for what I need it for, now if my house was completely carpeted it would've gone back to the store that same day lol.

Wannabe? Excuse me! The DC01 is the old faithful dinosaur, it's reliable and kinda still is because it's21 years old and they hardly burn out, Fantom made this after the DC01 and if it wasn't for Dyson, this great Fantom wouldn't be made, and if you had the Dual cyclone machines in the US, you would actually like how reliable they are.DC01 was launched in 1993, DC02 in 1995, (Fantom made an exact replica but with a PN) of the DC02, DC03, 04 and 05 were launched in 1998, DC07 in 2001,DC08 in 2002,DC08 TW in 2003 (I think)
Stop hating Dyson! Just because your DC07 is a lemon, it's just probs bad luck, get another one, maybe a DC17 and you will be blown away at the grooming and performance

Fantom was available well before the DC01

The 9 & 11 amp Thunders/Domestic/Destiny was already being sold commercially though with limited availability as early as 1989/90. They imported them local to me from Canada to the Buffalo area, later when Fantom got big they were distributed from a warehouse in the city. Iona became Fantom Technologies and released the Fury, Lightning (very similar to the Dyson counterpart) and the Cyclone XT. The Fury probably would have existed had Dyson never made his own vac and merely continued to license the technology to Fantom because the Thunder was expensive, had a high parts count, and they needed something to compete cost wise with those single cyclone machines that started coming out.

I didn't create this thread to start an argument.... I never said I hated Dyson's, I'm only speaking from personal experience. I have used a Dyson DC17 and it wasn't bad, but I prefer the Fantom because I owned one as a child, It has sentimental value to me. To me it's not about which vacuum works the best, it's about which one's I personally enjoy using the most.

It's too bad the Thunder's commercial father, the Vectron, was available as early as 1984. I DID have a DC17, and it honestly wasn't the worst vacuum on the planet,I actually had two of them. Still, it was a mess to empty, and not to mention bulky. You're forgetting that the Fantom IS a Dual-Cyclonic machine. This is a thread celebrating the refurbishment of an amazing Fantom, so I'll leave the hijacking here. If you wanna continue the great Fantom VS. Dyson war, you can always start a new thread! laughingtongue-out

That is a very, very nice Fantom Fury. You are lucky to have one that was refurbished, and not abused. Just make sure to blow it out with an air compressor, every once in a while. I have found myself that Fantoms really were not the greatest vacuums, but I still like them for sentimental reasons. My Aunt gave me those infomercial tapes that you could send in for, around 2000-ish. The only one I no longer have is the Lighting one, it broke a long time ago. I watched them more than Baby-Einstein. I can still recall many lines from each tape. My other Aunt's had a Fury & Lightning, My Mom's boss had a Thunder, We has the Thunder-Variant, the Destiny Plus, My cub-scout leader had a Cyclone XT. basically, I grew up around Fantom's. For many, many years, I thought the Fantom was the greatest vacuum in the world, so I suppose those informercials did it's job.

That's awesome, FantomFan! If I had one of those VHS Fantom tapes when I was younger, I would've watched them umntil the tape burned a hole in itself! laughing

Interesting read. I have watched the VHS introduction and instructions film they supplied some of the fantoms with. That is customer service that you don't get now. I guess with Dyson, they do put a lot of videos on their youtube chanel on how to use it etc, but supply something in with the box of something like a vacuum one can quickly watch is more personal, and more old school ;)

There is no way both Dyson and Fantom were designing their pilot vacuums without knowing what each other was doing. Wasn't there some sort of lawsuit on Dysons end for Fantom? The cyclone system look very similar. I am guessing by what people are saying, they fury is a better vacuum than the dc01 in terms of performance maybe, but my aunty had the dc01 when it came out and as a kid I remember how sturdy and nicely made they were, not like todays dysons, which they tell use are very durable. Hmm.

By the way, worth trying this out. Try and search for an LED bulb for your phantom. I used to get one on the vax mach uprights a few years ago. Makes them much brighter, and a whiter, crisper light, and they don't get hot ;) Try looking on ebay.
