Earlier this week, my neighbors had an estate sale. I ended up with a Dual Sanatronic 50 they bought new with Shampooer, Grinder, some other attachments etc with Paper work and original boxes for 25 bucks. Most of the attachments have never been used. Well today, a friend said out of the blue, Hey do you know anybody who might want a Kirby Sweeper? It was my Mothers and she passed away in April and its been sitting in my garage since we had a garage sale, and I want to get rid of it, she was the original owner. I said, what would you like for it? She said, Drive over and take it before the trashman gets it. I went over and a Kirby Classic model Omega.Plugged it in, and it fired up with the headlight etc. Serial Number 830437 Wonder how old this one is?

Kirby Classic Omega models were made from 1973 - 1976.

Yes and...

I am truly scared to say this because I will be wrong, right Alex? But the Classic Omega had 3 different styles of bags. If my memory serves me correctly.

It's always great to come upon finds like that. They great thing about a Kirby is that it's previous owner may have seriously neglected it but with a little TLC will bring it back to life!

David, I do believe you are correct. I think the Omega did have three bags, but I don't know in what order they came or how long each lasted. I've only ever owned the corduroy (my preference) and the diamond patterned bag.

Adam---great charts! Did you develop those yourself?

That's a very handy bag pattern/color chart and kudos for all the research and work; however, unless I am mistaken the bags for all the sirocco machines (562, San.VII, DSan.50) were the same -- closely spaced oval-ahaped Kirby logos. See background pattern on the web page linked below.

To David (sukething): You think far too lowly of yourself.

The first Classic Ω had the same mustard-brown bag as the Classic but with an updated logo.

Next was a tan bag with very fine dark brown vinyl stripes that proved to be a failure because the vinyl stripes were too close together and too dense to allow proper airflow.

Last was a bag in the same color as above except that the thin vinyl ribs were changed to diamond shapes that were spaced further apart.

Hi.

Hi Adam, Great Kirby bag chart.smile

The Kirby 562 and Sanitronic VII had tightly packed round logos only the Dual Sanitronic 50 had tightly packed oval logos. Just as pictured on Adam's chart.

Right you are, then. Apparently, early senility is creeping up ever-faster... I even have all three sirocco models and should know better!

My Sanitronic VII

Has a sirocco bag, but the Kirby name is in loosely spaced ovals, like the pattern on the DS-80 bag. It must be a replacement, and I'm pretty sure it's a genuine Kirby bag because the tag on it has the Scott and Fetzer name and logo. Here are some pictures of it. This is the first model Kirby I traded in when I started selling the Kirby Tradition in '82.

Thank you everybody! I did develop these charts. I made one for the beltlifters as well. I have another one for the 505 - 561 but I think I may have some wrong information on it so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Question

marks_here's profile picture
I remember for the 516-561 was there a bag with a blue tint to it. I remember going to the Kirby shop & there was one hanging on the wall, plus my neighbour had it on his Kirby. Also I remember the grey/red round logos on a conversion bag which I have only seen less then 4 times. Is this correct?

Awesome charts Adam..very cool to see them all lined up like that! That has prompted me to go into my "Kirby room" and check out my ovals!

Mark & Kirby cloth bags...

a007kirbyman's profile picture
Hello Mark.

Unlike cheese, [THINK WISCONSIN!!!], & fine wine [NOT in a box either! (imo ~~lol~~)]; many of the Kirby cloth bags have NOT aged well.

Soooo, it really is challenging with many of them, to know if they were made the way they are/were, or whether they've 'seasoned' poorly!!!

Unfortunately, I'm sure that's not what you were hoping to hear/read. ~~lol~~

On another note Mark, that was nice you were able to assist Ben with the 13" Kirby nozzle he's wanted for so long! :-))

Cheers & hagwknd all,

Bill
