The EPIC name has been used on every style of Lux canister and the upright... any of those could be an EPIC, though I'm not telling which ones are..... and the hand vac is the Little Lux...

Epic timeline:

• White body/grey trim; red or blue ELECTROLUX symbol 1997-99
• White body/periwinkle trim 2000-08
• All White (may have some grey trim) 2008-13

well that covers the upright Epics, in color if not model. There are also all the Epic tanks... 5000, 5500, 6000, 6500, 7000, 8000 and 9000 and all the assorted mixtures of white, gray, blue, and oyster that they came in

I like all the lux machines, past and present. However, I do prefer the metal tanks for their quiet performance. I do love my Platinum though, the first truly quiet plastic bodied canister, but it isn't without issues, too much complicated circuitry and with all the filters it makes a horrible blower, not even useful to unclog the hose.

Very nice collection! Aerus/Electrolux did a nice job styling those machines... I hope they're never discontinued. I'm particularly fond of your white Legacy and your white/gray 6500. I've got a white Legacy that I purchased new (ironically right AFTER I picked up a black 90th Anniversary model), but I've always wanted a white 6500 for comparison purposes. It's interesting to me that Aerus/Electrolux returned to that color scheme after only a few years. For those who know the white 6500s, which is more collectable: the red or blue lettered machines? I know that one of them has a 75th Anniversary sticker on it, but I'm still not sure which version is more collectable/rare.

As for the Epic 8000 another poster mentioned, that vacuum is part of what I like to call the Renaissance generation of Electrolux machines (the Renaissance was the first model name for that "body style" of canister, which replaced the last metal body 1521 Ultalux Classic). Other names for this body style were Epic 9000 and Guardian. IMHO, it was the last "all-new" vacuum designed entirely by Electrolux/Aerus. That machine was replaced by the Guardian Ultra, a design that dates back to the 1980's 2100 (and the Ultra was really just a stop-gap; it was a Legacy with a different motor and new top to accommodate a HEPA filter). The Ultra was recently replaced by the Guardian Platinum. But that machine isn't really an Aerus/Electrolux. It isn't made in America, according to the Aerus website, and it lacks specific features that all Electrolux models have had since... forever. The Platinum doesn't shut off when the bag gets full, and it WILL run without a bag installed/with the door open. To me, this is because the Platinum was designed primarily by another company. US Aerus only put final touches on their version, but it lacks the classic, defining features that every US-designed product has had. And it doesn't look particularly like an Electrolux product. But I digress...

The Epic 6000, 6500, and Lux 7000 were all earlier names for what's now known as the Lux Legacy family of vacuums.

Aerus was involved with the design and development of the Platinum in collaboration with Lux International from the beginning. There were more than 'finishing touches' done by Aerus engineers. It's by no means perfect, but it would have taken many more years to develop from scratch in house and it is a very good vacuum.
