My dad just got this vacuum for free from the Amazon Vine program. It claims to clean carpets better than the Dyson DC41. What do you guys think?

The vacuum came in a few pieces that needed to be snapped together, no tools required.

The good:
- Relatively light - Powerful suction for pet hair pickup - Retractable cord - Brushroll can be turned off for bare floors - Power switch is foot-activated So far, I'm enjoying this vacuum. Yes, it does feel very plasticky. I will see how long it lasts. I'm hoping it doesn't break as easily as my Hoover Windtunnel 2 Rewind Pet. I haven't tested the vacuum on bare floors or used the attachments yet. I tested the suction through the hose, and it was very good. There's a selector dial on the side of the vacuum that lets you focus all of the suction to the hose. That seems to be nice, though it's easy to forget to change it back when cleaning floors. Earlier, I noticed that the vacuum wasn't picking up well and leaving clumps of debris on the carpet. I couldn't figure out a thing. Then I realized that the dial was set to "tools." After moving it back to "floors," the vacuum worked like new. A minor annoyance. Next, the hose is rather short and anchored to the middle of the side of the machine. If you try to use the hose several feet away from you, the vacuum tips over very easily. I can't imagine cleaning stairs with this hose. One small annoyance is the controls. It takes a meaningful jab with your toe to push the power pedal. The brushroll on/off pedal is not very responsive. You have to push down HARD on the pedal to get it to register. Lastly, the vacuum gets dusty fast. I've used this machine to vacuum up quite a bit of pet hair, and I noticed dust collecting on and around the vacuum head. This probably isn't the best machine for allergy sufferers. |
