Under the 'A3' name, but has a 700w motor, 8m cord & 76dBa.

Is the A3 the replacement for the PurePower/Capture bagged cylinder range? It looks slightly, to me anyway, to have a slight Telios/Arianne look about it, but that's just my opinion.

Looking in the new Argos Catalogue shows the new Hoover 'Vortex' machines. I'm not sure if it's deliberate but think about it - the new Turbopower, the new Junior, and now, the new Vortex. Are they trying to live up to the standards that those names hold, rekindling customer's memories of machines they had before with those names, and how good they are, thinking that the newer versions with the same name are as good, or even better? It's a clever ploy for Hoover to sell more product's, but hopefully the customer will realize they've been 'had', as such to speak, and invest their money better next time round, which, if they buy a modern Hoover, may not be long at all.

They also still sell the Dust Manager, which is still a horrid vacuum with can't manage Dust at all - again, my opinion.

Also Hoover are making a big deal about having 'A' rated energy efficiency, making it appear that they have spent ages creating the 'ideal' eco product, whilst really, I highly doubt Hoover would have wanted to stop production of their overpowered unreliable screamers they produced, when really it's the new EU law that flipped the table. Hoover bragging about the new energy claims just shows that they are having to turn to advertising like this, which shows that they are struggling to flog cleaners, in a way. You don't see Miele or Numatic having to make massive claims like this to sell volumes of cleaners.

I know this may be my opinion, and the naming thing may just be a coincidence, but that's how I think. Oh, and by the way, if it wasn't clear enough, I don't like modern Hoover cleaners much.

Hoover. Who better? Lots.

Jacob

The Athos has been on the EU market for some time now - Germany and other countries got it first - think lovechild of Miele meets Hoover though - it has castors on the underside and a 5 litre dust bag - doesn't take the same one the TeliosPlus has - this is for all intents and purposes, Hoover Europe's high end bagged cylinder vac. The Capture/Whirlwind I think has a 2 litre dust bag, acting as the first bagged cylinder then followed by the 3.5 litre dust bag TeliosPlus and now this much bigger vacuum.

I am a bit surprised that it has a 1.5 metre hose though - I do wish Hoover would return to 1.8 metres instead of capping the hose.

You are right though: Hoover Europe are desperately trying to rekindle memories of old by using old name, although why they have named this the Athos is completely beyond me - they could have graced this model with an old name.

Where's the new Hoover Junior that you mention?

Also, the naming thing seems very odd too. Some of the Hoover Cleaners get a G for emissions which is very poor.

Hi-Lo

suctionselector's profile picture

Hello Beckham - if I may address you by your first name, apologies if you would prefer 'Hi-loswitch98' - the new Junior is a stick vac which I can assume was the predecessor of the current Hoover 'Unplugged' range. The Junior is now discontinued.

I'm more excited that the Diva has finally made it to the UK but badged A2 but at £249.99 I will wait for the price to drop as per usual. I loved the look of it on the Hoover Italy website unfortunatly we only seem to get the white version personally I think the red and black looks more elegant!

Actually.

The Hoover "Junior" stick vac came from existing ranges in other EU countries, HI-LO - Hoover just changed the name for the UK. Same model as the Hoover Athyss although no bagless version was sold here under the Junior name - just the red stick vac with suction only floor head (I still have the floor head, its the only thing PLUS the washable dust bag that survived) or the Black version that Jacob has posted here that came with a shoulder strap kit and air driven turbo floor brush.

Seems like the bagless version of that stick vac from Hoover seems to be the Italian Synua model.

As you can see there are only a few differences to the floor head.

One of our members has already bought the Synua in Australia

The A2 that Beckham posted about seems to have lost the click fit tubes that the Athos has and the hose wrap around is slightly different and the hose handle looks like it lacks the soft grip real shame those features have gone!

There are 3 to 6 different versions of the Athos in some markets and Hoover's Germany site features 3 of them so not all feature the clip at the front for Nanopack/hose (or whatever the heck Hoover Europe call it these days!) or other features.

Hello Jacob (if I can address you by your name) thanks for pointing that out, I just got a bit confused then as to what you meant.

Dan - Yes I can't wait until the A2 Upright comes down in price, it's probably the only Modern Hoover (bar the new 700w Purepower) that looks interesting. :)

Beckham...

It's fine. My name is Jacob and Jacob is my name :) Even I got confused by it as i'd seen it badged as something else somewhere else.

Avoid the PurePower, even though the motor is now much lower, there's unexplained bangs and broken foot pedals, and the dreaded PurePower lean!

Jacob...

That's good haha :)

That's quite odd for the Purepower, I read the thread about yours, what have you done about Hoover uk? Have you told them?

Nothing yet...

suctionselector's profile picture

Not done anything yet, but will be in contact with them soon. My plane sets off tomorrow so I can't do anything for a while, but when I get a chance I will be in contact with them, but I'm not sure I can do that whilst in Spain, so it may have to take a back seat until I'm back here, which will be the other side of the summer. Plus I need to sort a vacuum out for the house in Spain, as well as redecorating. Urgh, it's going to be a busy few weeks!

Have a good time in Spain, I'm off there in September haha :)

Last time I was there they had Beko Vacuums haha.

Your welcome!

Another "new" old release from Hoover

sebo_fan's profile picture
This isn't as yet on the Hoover UK website but I found it just now on Very.
When are we going to be rid of the U.S Dirt Devil Vibe based model? I had the original Alyx, then Hoover replaced it with an updated hood and now carries ANOTHER name, this time the Spritz.

I think Hoover also sold it in white and red and carried the "Smart" name too.

Nice colours though it relies on the paper pleated cone behind plastic vertical grids.
