I have had it with my Oreck! But I love it too.

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I need some help. I own an Oreck X.L. Pro Series Silver vacuum. I have two rough coat collies and two short haired cats. I have low and medium pile carpets. I don't vacuum my hard floors with this particular vacuum. I am pointing to the situation, hair gets wrapped around that area and the vacuum starts stinking. It will burn the bearings up. I use it extremely gently, once every three months. Please help.

I don't know if those are the gray bristles, looks like it. Those were an experiment of antimicrobial brushrolls and they were awful. I think if you replace the brushroll with a new one, you might be happier. Just a thought. You'd still have to keep an eye on it though, as with any brushroll when you're dealing with the pet hair like you are.

I never knew that! Really helps. I guess red brushes are better?

I'd second a new brush. I would vacuum more than once every 3 months, that's a LOT of hair for any vacuum to take at one time!

It's okay to vacuum, that's what you bought it for, isn't it??? Or it should still be under warranty, take it back to Oreck & let them deal with it. While your at it since you seldom vacuum, check the fill tube for clogs with all that fur...yuck!

I got it off of eBay. It was broken. Same issue to the prior owners. Original photo below.

Take it apart to make sure no clogs, clean it real good, replace the brush roll as stated above & you should be good to go

I do that once every six months (two uses). Sometimes, most occasions, lots of the time.

I use a canister and a nice European style horse hair floor brush about every other day on the hard floors to keep ahead of the doggie hair, otherwise I get what I call hair drifts moving around. I have to take the wand off the end of the hose every couple of minutes and flip it over to suck the dog hair out of the bristles of the floor brush to keep them clear.

On carpet I don't have problems with hair wrapping around the brush roll but again I'm vacuuming every other to at most ever third day to stay ahead. Two huskies can generate an awful lot of hair in two days. I long ago made my peace with dog hair and drool. Their love is more than adequate compensation.

Oh yeah, that's "my daughter" Karly and her "husband" Gunnar. Karly was given to me by a neighbor who didn't want her ( ! ) and Gunnar was a stray I picked up off the mean streets of Lancaster California. They were inseparable from the beginning.

remove the old brush roll, remove the end caps, clean the hair out that is always spooled there. Then reassemble everything being careful not to over tighten anything. You may not need a brush roll.
