I recently acquired a a Dyson DC35 from Dyson after many issues dealing with the company. Their customer service dealing with me has been first class. They certainly know how to please the customer. I still have an issue with my Dyson DC24 that has now randomly developed an issue with not being able to switch off! This has occured exactly one month after it's repair at its head office in Malmesbury. Thank goodness it can still be used and didn't stop working! I just have to unplug it every time to stop it.

Dyson called me and have arranged an engineer to come and fix my machine in 2 weeks time (they didn't have any earlier slots). Still not award winning service but I can only assume their engineers are pretty busy that's why I have to wait so long for them now. I just hope the engineer has the part on the vehicle this time and not tell me he/she has to come back once the part has been ordered lol. Let's wait and see.

Anyway, I have this DC35 in addition. Not really used it much in the flat I'm in as I have the DC24. I decided to take the DC35 to my parents 3 bedroom house. I managed to use it 'properly' for the first time. I got the whole house cleaned with it, including the stairs. It did an impressive job for what it is. I'm aware of the DC59 and the DC59 Motorhead (in the States) perform better.

I was surprised that got the whole house cleaned with it and it was easy to handle. Only criticism I have is the Finger Tip Control is a little uncomfortable and my finger got a sore spot on it. Not sure if this addressed on the DC59.

As you can see, the machine picked up quite a bit. It performs adequately on carpets and it excels on hard floors. The hair and dust in the bathroom came up in one pass. I guess it's easy to rely on one of these but I like to use a mains powered machine as I know it has more power to provide a deeper clean.

I have used it in the car and it's pretty good. Though it could probably do with a hose on it to get into very deep nooks and crannies. The brushbar is easy to remove for cleaning. The digital motor stays cool when in use. Only when it's used on Boost Mode that I noticed the slight heat from it. It has a tendency to blow with force out of its exhaust. But that's only minor.

I would never pay Dyson prices for this machine, but I think it's a great machine in its own right. As long as the battery issues don't plaque it like on the DC16 it would be great, though I've been quite a few complains online about the battery issues .

The Vax Air Cordless looks like a great machine with even more versatility. It would be interesting to try one of these out one day.

Nice!

Glad you are happy with the DC35. The DC59 does have a trigger which requires less effort to press than the older models. I was considering getting the DC44, but got put off by the prices, and would like a new one with warranty and mini motorised head along with the handheld kit that includes the stretch hose. when the DC59 prices drop, in a few years, I would be tempted.
I hope the DC35 will last and serve you well mate, seems like a very useful machine

Why of-course they're busy

They're dyson repairmen! I hear Fantom has a lot of open slots these days! tongue-out

The only thing with those battery cleaners is you have a fun time waiting for them to charge before use! think if you have company coming over in just 2 Minutes and you suddenly have to vacuum a ton of peanuts you spilled everywhere? or worse, when you run out of battery while vacuuming!

I have the DC59 and find the trigger to be OK. Only needs a light touch, you certainly don't have to squeeze it firmly to operate the cleaner.

You mention people relying on a Dyson cordless, presumably as their one and only vacuum cleaner, and from what I've heard that's exactly what some are doing. Personally, I'm in the same camp as you and only consider it to be a supplementary cleaner. People have asked me if I would recommend it as a full-time vacuum, to which my answer is always no, unless one happens to live in a small studio apartment (what we used to call a bedsit). For that it would be absolutely ideal.

Mine gets used each day before I head off to work to clean puddy hair off the sofa, followed by a zip through the rest of the house, and not once have I ever managed to drain the battery flat in one session. Only on my days off do I get the Sebo out for a full scale vacuuming, and even then it isn't exactly finding tons of crap that the Dyson missed, because it doesn't leave much to begin with. Performs a lot better than I initially hoped for, and has definitely changed my perceptions with regard to cordless vacuums. Today's models are considerably better than the awful nicad-powered things of yesteryear, which were always underwhelming even at their best.
