Just wanted to thank everyone on this site who responded to my post re: advise on getting a used Kirby a few weeks ago.
I bid and won one on E-bay. Its an Ultimate G.
This is my very first Kirby ever. I always wanted one but just never got around to it.
After receiving it and using it I am a convert! I love this machine. It came as advertised--- cleaned and in great shape.
My carpets are now the cleanest they've ever been. Here's a pic of it in its new home.
Thanks again to everyone.

Congratulations on getting that nice unit with a nice array of attachments. You'll now find out why Kirby is at the top of the list for so many of us. You can use the white HEPA bags in that model, which I would recommend. The F style bags in the plastic with the green lettering are for the later Sentria and current Sentria II. They will fit the twist-on fill tube in your machine. The twist-on bags in the plastic with the blue lettering would be good for you.

Look at the serial number etched on the right side of the machine. The first four numbers should tell you the month and year of manufacture. If you did not get a manual with your machine, go to the Kirby website and access the online manual. If you use the rug renovator, make sure to follow the directions to the letter. Do not pick up your Kirby by grasping the upper handle grip. Use the carry handle at the bottom. Good luck with your new purchase.

I must say, your carpet appears to be well Kirbed. Well done, well done...indeed! You know what they say, " Once you go Kirby, there's no turning back." Now your forever doomed to have a fantastic machine! Congratulations and happy dust bunny hunting, they will soon be an endangered species.

LOL, my Kirby's are my least used vacuums... except I love the rug renovator or shampooer from the later models and maybe I even like they a little better than my Lux Floor Pro, but I make no promises.

I don't know Kirbys. I have seen two Gs in my life and that is about it. Both Gs had side to side play in the handles. Is that normal or not? Thanks.

Now you are going to send me back to that thrift store here to see if the G they had on sale is still available, see what all the hoo-rah is about.

Funny thing, I called that thrift store to see if they still had that Kirby G for ten bucks. The clerk said no, it sold fast (imagine that). She allowed that they had underpriced it. She told me it should have been priced at $40. So I asked her how much she thought it sold for. Her answer? "$200". I told her they sold for $1500 or more. I don't think she believed me.

Nice machine! I have a G-Six that I snagged off the dumpster at the apartment complex where used to live about a year and a half ago. All it needed was a bag and a short time later a belt. That thing is a total deep cleaning beast.

No doubt about it, Kirby is an unparalleled machine, and if I may add, that was a wonderful save on the G6! I'm sure it will give you many, many years of reliable use.
