Look inside the compartment on top of the motor unit where the cord plugs in. (Lift up the lid.) If you're lucky, there will be a little metal tool clipped inside there that looks something like a rectangular soda can pull-tab. It was called "The Basement and Attic Key," used to keep the machine from ejecting too soon when fine, powdery dirt was being vacuumed up.

Lacking the tool, you can use a golf tee -- wedge it (pointed end first) inside the opening over the little metal tab sticking out from the lower-left side of the front cover and it will keep the ejection process from happening.

(Note that if your machine still has the metal ejection apparatus inside the bag cage, you'll have to push it back down to the back of the bag cage before wedging the golf tee against the metal lever.)

well as expected no key was found but if i recall a salesman would adjust the ones without the dial with some special tool kit so couldn't you just get similar tools and adjust it that way

also it did not suck up any fine dust at all and is so sensitive if you put the head to carpet it ejects

and if i manged to find a lower plate with a dial on it could a just screw that in or is the more modification necessary

Try the golf tee. It works like a charm.

edit i sorta want the automatic bag ejection to work its kind of the whole point i love this vacuum and if you wedge the key to stop it from automatically ejecting it makes it no different then other vacuums

is there anyway you can adjust it by using simaler tools to what the sales men used to adjust them in your house since mine dose not have a dial

It sounds like one of the small air tubes located inside the the bag cover may be blocked. I recently had a similar issue with my Model G. After stripping the paper sleeve of a twist tie (with a needle nose pliers) I used the wire to clean out the metal nipple on the hose inlet to which one of the tubes attached and voila, it now works just fine. To access the tubes just remove the screws of the inside cover plate and remove the plate (at least that's how the Model G's tubes were accessed). Before reattaching the cover plate completely, check to see if you have corrected the problem. If not, check the other tubes for blockages. By the way, I tried using a bent paper clip, too, but it was too large in diameter.

As for retrofitting your cleaner with an adjustment dial ... that used to be done back in the day by the friendly Electrolux men (shortly after the Model LX made its debut in 1952). However, they would have had the correct tools and parts. "Tig21er" (John) is a 50+ year Electrolux sales veteran who continues to sell Aerus products. If he (or another person who has performed the task) doesn't respond to this thread you might try emailing him for information. It is doubtful that the average Aerus representative would know how to attach a dial, but if you have an Aerus store in your area you could always check with them.

Charles, if you have an actual close-up photo of a basement and attic key I'd appreciate seeing it.

The key or wedge would only be used temporarily--when vacuuming fine contaminants such as found in a basement or attic. That's why Charles mentioned checking the cord compartment at the top of the machine. Customers were encouraged to store the key there when not in use.

ronni well the tube is definatley not clogged because i had cleaned and redid the the tube assembly as the old one became brittle and shrunk

i remember seeing a photo of a adjustment kit dealers had so the dial less one are definitely ajustible you just need the right tools so you could probably use some simmlar tools to do it

also i will try and contact john

Sounds good, David.

I don't know how the tubes are connected in a Model LX, but do use the wire to clean out all the nipples (if you didn't already do so--couldn't tell by your description) to be sure they aren't blocked. It's an easy procedure and will save you from having to look elsewhere if it isn't necessary. The tubes themselves were not clogged on my Model G. In fact, I couldn't even see the clog when I looked. The wire must have pushed out some gunk that was in the nipple.

what wire also is it possible for them to come un calibrated because when mine is a quarter way full of normal everyday not fine dust it still ejects

I don't have a lot of information about the LX--just some basics. I haven't heard how full an uncalibrated LX's bag is supposed to get before it ejects. I would think in most instances it should fill to at least 3/4. Are you the original owner of your carpeting? If not, you may be unaware of fine dirt that your cleaner is removing from it that has been there for a while. Other considerations are how often you vacuum your carpeting, and if you frequently leave your doors and windows open--both of which would increase the amount of fine contaminants settling in your carpeting. Keep in mind that such dirt will clog the bag's pores which restricts the air flow and would trigger the automatic feature.

Another thought came to mind ... what cleaner had you been using prior to the Model LX? Perhaps it wasn't doing an effective job? In that scenario, you may have to clean with your Model LX several times until it has removed the majority of the embedded contaminants.

Otherwise, the issue is likely a type of clog in the air flow tubes. As for the wire--reread my reply #8. The other possibility would be that you have vacuumed up enough fine dirt or dust that the pores of the bag have become clogged which has restricted the air flow from the bag and made it eject prematurely.

If none of the above situations is the culprit, then I'd recommend talking to someone with experience in working on Aerus and Electrolux cleaners, because I'm out of ideas!
