Kirbys aren't my thing, but I saw a Kirby G series today in a thrift shop. It didn't look too bad. It needs some sprucing up and the handle had side to side play in it. I assume anything that might be wrong can be fixed. There was a plastic display case with a bunch of tools, some of which are awfully unfamiliar. There was a hose with a floor attachment, and the original box for the tool display.

The price for all of it is ten bucks. I didn't have my camera with me. Like I said, Kirbys don't turn my crank, but I imagine there are dozens of members here who would have snatched this up in a New York nanosecond. I can see the traffic jam on the state highway next week, lol. The store it's in is called Desert Area Resources and Training. They train the disabled and coach them at work to make them more independent. Their phone number is 760.375.9787 . Here is the home page of their web site.

Let us know how it goes.

it's not the greatest drive, but I do love the part through the Owen's Valley from Bishop to south of Lone Pine...

Would you be coming down US6? The section from Tonopah to Ely is one of my favorite motorcycle rides. I also like the curvy canyons and agricultural valleys between Big Pine CA and Goldfield NV.

6 to Bishop, 395 the rest of the way. Just traveled that way so many times it's all too familiar.

Count your blessings. Six hours of those roads are painless to me. Try six hours of urban So Cal freeways. You will be squeezing juice out of the steering wheel after two.

Are you coming down from Ely? I really like the stretch from Ely to Tonopah. US 50 is billed as the "loneliest road" but US 6 out there is even lonelier IMHO. 167 miles with no towns (well, none that are currently occupied) and no gas stops in between unless you take the detour to Preston. On the V-Rod I always bring an extra gallon of gas with me in a small container for that leg. Even with five gallons of gas, V-Rods can be thirsty beasts, the high altitudes make them run rich and there is little reason to keep the speeds down out there, heh, heh, heh. Mileage suffers accordingly.

not quite that far out. On Hwy 50 near Austin. So 50 to Fallon, 93/95 to 6, 6 to Bishop and 395 to Ridgecrest. I know So. Cal freeways all too well. Until 3 years ago I lived in East San Diego County and commuted to Costa Mesa 3-4 days a week... don't miss that at all.
