Oh, it's all go over here, isn't it?

Press release from Bosch on the new cleaners:

BOSCH WELCOMES NEW ENERGY LABELLING RULES FOR VACUUM CLEANERS

Bosch is optimistic that its vacuum cleaners will remain an attractive choice for consumers under new EU energy labelling regulations.

BOSCH WELCOMES NEW ENERGY LABELLING RULES FOR VACUUM CLEANERS

(Milton Keynes, 10th March 2014) Bosch is optimistic that its vacuum cleaners will remain an attractive choice for consumers under new EU energy labelling regulations.

Starting from 1 September 2014, every vacuum cleaner offered for sale to consumers in the European Union (EU) will carry an energy label and be rated from A-G for performance, dust re-emission, noise level and power consumption.

Once implemented, the new energy labels will enable consumers to evaluate a vacuum’s performance at a glance, making it easier to choose the appliance best suited to their individual needs. Vacuums will be rated for cleaning performance on carpet; cleaning performance on hard floors; noise (sound power level) and dust re-emission class.

With its energy-efficient and powerful vacuum cleaners in the floor care segment, Bosch is already well positioned to meet the requirements of the new regulations. Preliminary feedback on how Bosch vacuums measure up against the new ratings has been positive.

The overall rating of all performance criteria is critical

As of 1 September 2014, only vacuum cleaners with a rated input power of less than 1600 W may be placed on the market by manufacturers. This means the energy consumption of an appliance in the energy efficiency class A is below 850 W. The energy efficiency class in the top part of the label represents only one of the possible rating criteria for the consumer and essentially describes the energy consumption of the appliance. However, another crucial factor for a vacuum cleaner is primarily its cleaning performance, for example its performance on carpets and on hard floors, which can be read on the bottom part of the label.

The sound power level and the dust re-emission class – an indicator of clean discharged air – must also meet consumer expectations. For those with allergies exacerbated by dust in the atmosphere, a good dust re-emission score will be a must.

An unobtrusive sound power level is a purchase criterion that is becoming increasingly important for many consumers, with even a few decibels making the difference between very loud and pleasantly quiet. Anyone looking for the right vacuum cleaner from September this year will be able to use all the information on the new energy label to make their decision.

New impetus for research and development

Bosch not only sees advantages for consumers in the introduction of the energy label for vacuum cleaners, but also opportunities for manufacturers.

"We welcome the introduction of the energy label as it will create a high level of transparency for comparing important vacuum cleaner features and thus act as a helpful guide," says Andrew Jones, Group Marketing Manager, Bosch.

The target values set with the Energy Label for cleaning performance are especially ambitious. "From our perspective, however, the EU demands for vacuum cleaners with best label values are not pitched too high," says Jane Lee, Floorcare Product Manager, Bosch. "They are forward-looking and encourage innovations in the floor care segment."

These target values are also set to increase further in 2017. Vacuum cleaners from Bosch and Siemens use the energy-saving compressor technology for their motors – without compromising on cleaning performance. Further innovations can be expected with the introduction of the energy label. In accordance with the requirement of the European Commission, Bosch will apply the energy label just a few months in advance of the binding 1 September 2014 deadline.

The new EU Energy Label – key facts at a glance

- The new EU Energy Label allows energy efficiency classes, cleaning performance, sound power level and dust-re-emission class to be compared at a glance.

- As of 1 September 2014, the label will be found on all vacuum cleaners placed on the market in the EU.

- The 75 mm x 150 mm label must be clearly visible on the appliance.

- All colors and graphics on the label are binding and may not be changed individually.

- The use and sale of vacuum cleaners placed on the market by manufacturers prior to 1 September 1 2014 and which are still in circulation will still be allowed even after the mandatory introduction of the label. However, manufacturers are prohibited from placing appliances without the EU Energy Label on the market from this time on.

- The EU provides for use of the label a few months prior to the binding introductory date.

- The target values are set to increase again in 2017.

Also welcomed by Electrolux. Sorry, this one is rather old, but I haven't seen it before. Not sure if it's been posted already? Apologies in advance for any duplication.

In this thread www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-... I added the Bosch BSGL5850 which has an 850 watt motor. Hasn't arrived just yet in the UK, it is still in Germany doing the rounds.
