. It certainly has been a vacuum cleaner bonanza on vintage TV shows this week. I just turned the TV on and "Bachelor Father" was on, a show I've only seen a couple of times. Bentley Gregg (John Forsythe), the bachelor father, lives with his daughter Kelly (Noreen Corcoran) and a male Japanese housekeeper Peter (Sammee Tong). When I turned the TV on, Bentley was scolding Peter for buying a new vacuum cleaner. Peter was kneeling on the floor putting together a G.E. Swivel-Top!! It appeared to be the green and chrome model. The hose was light-colored but I couldn't tell if it was woven or coiled. Here's the info I dug up on it -- no links to a video, alas... -------------------------------- "Never-married attorney Bentley Gregg took on the task (with help from his housekeeper Peter) of raising his young niece Kelly, after her parents died in an accident. The job was easier when Kelly was a little girl, but now she's in her teens, and beginning to date and venture into the adult world, while Bentley continues to juggle his career, looking after Kelly, and his own romantic life." [Any subliminal messages here??!] The episode with the vacuum cleaner: Bachelor Father: BENTLEY AND THE LOST CHORD 22 Dec 60 NBC Thur TV producer Don Wheeler overhears Peter humming a tune while testing a new vacuum cleaner. Peter wants the vacuum cleaner, but Wheeler wants the tune for the theme of his TV series. |

Bachelor Father was made at Revue-Universal Studios TV division. June Cleaver had the same vacuum-as the shows were shot at the same studios,it probably was the same cleaner. When you see the long shots of the Cleaver house, the Greggs' house is right down the street. Ward you were so hard on the Beaver last night! The Greggs',& the Cleavers, moved in the beginning of the 1959-60, season as Revue switched backlots. The first Cleaver house-a shingled cape cod,was also down the street from the Greggs'old home-a California ranch house. When the Greggs'& Cleavers' lived there they shared a Compact cannister,& a Hoover #64.
