Kirby's don't get weak, but they do suffer from worn belts, improperly installed and adjusted brush rolls and clogged cloth bags. Change the belt, install and adjust the brush roll properly and vacuum the cloth bag out and give it a mild washing and the cleaning performance will be as good as new. |

Don't count on your Kirby coming back from the rebuild department with the right colored trim or attachments. I sent in my Classic III one time and it came back with a grey bumper and a few wrong colored attachments. The next time I sent it in I specificly told them if they didn't have the right colors to fix it up the best they could and send it back. If you have some tools that you're satisfied with that they might think need replacing, don't send them in. Keep them at home and you will still have them.

As a tired Kirby! How's the vacuum on noise? For all we know, the fan could be broken or simply missing!
If this is the original bag, take it off the emptor and gently wash it in warm, soapy water. this will revitalize the bag and restore air-flow.
be sure the brush-roll is not too worn, or it is improperly adjusted (Ex:One side is adjusted higher than the other).be sure the brush-roll spins free and with no friction or slow-ness what-so-ever.
Take the fan cover off and inspect for blockages. In some cases (Like my new Classic III!), Kirbys used on new carpets will have their fan cases PACKED with carpet fibers. be sure that there is no blockages in the fan-case.
That's my 57 cents, Good luck!

Oh dear, could this be one of those cases when the operator sets the Kirby to '0' for that 'deep-down' clean? Or when they just leave it at '8'!
To properly adjust your Kirby, continue to lower the Toe-Touch until you hear the noticeable change in pitch. Adjust one more level down and you're ready to vacuum! |

There is one long screw in the top front and either 3 or 4 shorter screws on the back of the fan case. Once you have removed all of the screws you may need to pry the two halves of the fan case apart with a thin flat blade screwdriver. This is because there should be a layer of adhesive sealant between the 2 halves. You should apply a layer of clear silicone sealant to one of the halves when you re-assemble it. |

The Kirby has a hidden screw in the back for the fan case. You have to remove the motor cover to access it.
Make sure the brush bristles are sticking out of the nozzle far enough. The HEADS of the brush adjusting screws on either side of the brush must face the carpet. If they face up into the nozzle, the brush won't reach the carpet. The brush should stick out one quarter inch beyond the soleplate to clean the rug. |
