Well my Kirby sanitronic 7 had its first run on the living room and the results. It embarrassed me and itself. It missed almost everything. I think the motor definitely needs to. Be rebuilt how should I go about it I have heard horror storys about the Kirby rebuild program wrong bags wrong trim etc. How can I avoid that.

Lets see-where to begin-Does the roller brush in your machine turn properly-Is it worn out?Is your bag empty and clean-any debris in the SaniEmptor?Does the gasket on the SaniEmptor Dump door seal?Is the motor running right?Hows the fan?We could go on.something MUST be wrong with your machine if its not picking up.

There are so many simple things that could cause poor performance. Have you checked any of the things Tolivac mentioned above?

If you send your Sanitronic to Kirby it will come back with a Black bag as the tan bags are no longer made. The rest of the trim will probably be OK.

Kirby's don't get weak, but they do suffer from worn belts, improperly installed and adjusted brush rolls and clogged cloth bags. Change the belt, install and adjust the brush roll properly and vacuum the cloth bag out and give it a mild washing and the cleaning performance will be as good as new.

Don't count on your Kirby coming back from the rebuild department with the right colored trim or attachments. I sent in my Classic III one time and it came back with a grey bumper and a few wrong colored attachments. The next time I sent it in I specificly told them if they didn't have the right colors to fix it up the best they could and send it back. If you have some tools that you're satisfied with that they might think need replacing, don't send them in. Keep them at home and you will still have them.

There is one other motor options.  One of the bearings (most like the front) could be seizing.  One or both motor could also be worn almost to the end.  That will cause a loss in power.

There's no such thing,

As a tired Kirby! How's the vacuum on noise? For all we know, the fan could be broken or simply missing!surprised

If this is the original bag, take it off the emptor and gently wash it in warm, soapy water. this will revitalize the bag and restore air-flow.

be sure the brush-roll is not too worn, or it is improperly adjusted (Ex:One side is adjusted higher than the other).be sure the brush-roll spins free and with no friction or slow-ness what-so-ever.

Take the fan cover off and inspect for blockages. In some cases (Like my new Classic III!), Kirbys used on new carpets will have their fan cases PACKED with carpet fibers. be sure that there is no blockages in the fan-case.

That's my 57 cents, Good luck!

For all we know it could be an operator error. If the fan is present, the motor spins freely, and the belt and brushroll are good, there is absolutely no reason why this Kirby should not be picking up stuff. You need to make sure that when you use it, you adjust the Toe Touch Control properly, so that you get a good seal on your carpet.

toe-touch!

Oh dear, could this be one of those cases when the operator sets the Kirby to '0' for that 'deep-down' clean? Or when they just leave it at '8'!surprised

To properly adjust your Kirby, continue to lower the Toe-Touch until you hear the noticeable change in pitch. Adjust one more level down and you're ready to vacuum!wink

fan case. and bag washing.

Well folks two things I have yet to check the fan case. I've had all the screws out and for the life of me can't get it apart wondering if I'm missing something. Will post pictures on next tear down and bag wash how would one go about doing this I've heard of these bags disintegrating would a delegate wash cycle be acceptable?

For the fan case...

There is one long screw in the top front and either 3 or 4 shorter screws on the back of the fan case. Once you have removed all of the screws you may need to pry the two halves of the fan case apart with a thin flat blade screwdriver. This is because there should be a layer of adhesive sealant between the 2 halves. You should apply a layer of clear silicone sealant to one of the halves when you re-assemble it.

in the Kirby service manual,

Kirby says to stick a wooden dowel into the exhaust pipe and hit it with a mallet! it'll knock the fan-case loose!tongue-outwink

The Kirby has a hidden screw in the back for the fan case. You have to remove the motor cover to access it.

Make sure the brush bristles are sticking out of the nozzle far enough. The HEADS of the brush adjusting screws on either side of the brush must face the carpet. If they face up into the nozzle, the brush won't reach the carpet. The brush should stick out one quarter inch beyond the soleplate to clean the rug.

Tom,

Are you sure about that? I had to remove no such screw to access the fan on my 1-CR.
