I have a blue Hoover electric broom that I've had for a while I found at the thrift store. It's in really nice shape cosmetically, but it seems to have a few problems mechanically. It seems there is a lot of dust in the motor housing and it is very noisy. I assume these were relatively noisy but I don't know if it is normal for them to be dusty inside. I can't get the motor out very far because of the short wires. I have not really used it at all and don't have any bags for it.

Also what year is it from? It's a model S2015. A floor only machine, no handle to use as hand vac.

In case you still have it ...

Its design was initially named "Handi-Vac" from 1966 until 1974. As far as I know each model made during that time allowed the user to use it with a handle or a shoulder strap. In 1974 Hoover chose to separate the two functions into the "Quik-Broom" vac for floors and the "Handi-Vac" for above the floor cleaning.

Your S2015 was produced from 1975 until 1987. Its Stellar Blue & Oyster White color scheme matched other cleaners in its early years including the Convertibles U4005 and U4027.

Paul:

Before the Handi-vac which replaced the Pixie, there was the Lark. How interesting the way these models evolved. The Lark came out the same time the Hoover Floor Washer did, and both were in the same blue as shown in the pic above. However, the floor washer was usually in yellow.

That model was my first Handivac purchase

I got it at Vac Way in Scranton, the same day my aunt got here 707 Convertible.

I got the Handivac tools ($10.00) at Zollinger's

Great machine.  And, several of those blue Convertibles have made their way into the house.

 LOVE 'em!

Zollinger's.

That rings a bell.

As you're the expert on this one, wasn't Zollinger's in North Canton, Ohio where Murray J. Spangler worked before inventing The Electric Suction Sweeper?

Check the book Fabulous Dustpan.

If my memory is right, then Zollinger's had a store in the Fowler building in what is now North Canton.

Response to Human: (Diverging Off-Topic from another thread)

Although there were other blue Hoover stick vacs, I am taking for granted that both of yours are different versions of the Model S2015, which was produced earlier with a blue nozzle and later with a white nozzle. Another change was the white flip switch to the red slide switch.

In viewing online photos, I wondered why the model name was omitted from the casing or nozzle like other models. So I checked newspaper ads and discovered that the S2015 began as a 'Handivac' and became a 'Quik-Broom'. Ads ran from 1975 to 1987, so it was one of or possibly the longest produced Hoover stick vacs.

The serial numbers would also indicate which is older.

Yes, both of my QuikBrooms are the model S2015. One is the later white-footed variant, while the other is the earlier blue-footed version, but my blue-footed one has the same slider switch as the later version, albeit in black instead of red.

For a while, I also had a QuikBroom Supreme, which had a floor nozzle on wheels and a permanent cloth bag and dirt cup, similar to the Regina stick vacs. I loaned it to a somewhat emotionally unstable friend of mine, who subsequently destroyed it by slamming it down on the floor in an attempt to clear a clog.

The first of the ads you posted, the one from Woolco, brought back memories. I hadn't thought of Woolco in many years. They went out of business when I was a freshman in college.

Interesting—there were probably other variances over the dozen or so years of production of the S2015. Eureka would have changed the Type with such updates, but Hoover either kept the same model numbers with minor changes or added a suffix for more significant ones and to indicate the inclusion of tools.

I wonder if the Quik-Broom Supreme was produced as a successor to the Regina Electrik-Broom when Regina went out of business?. Too bad yours was abused by your friend.

We had a Woolworth where I lived. I have no memory of shopping at a Woolco, which I think was its larger version.
