For those Fort Wayne members that can make it(or others from surrounding areas)the former Allen County Sweeper Shop is being cleaned out by the non-profit organization Tek-Venture. All proceeds from the tag sale and from Ebay sales will go towards the upkeep of the building and supplies for their public projects. Only a limited number of the 200+ machines will be sold at the tag sale coming up the second week of June (exact date coming soon!)The mind boggling amount of vintage and new parts will be listed on Ebay, as soon as an account is setup, as will the remaining machines. (I will keep you all posted) Below are pictures of just some of the things that are in that shop, most inventory has been packed away in boxes but as the sale unfolds more and more parts will be brought out. I have seen vintage Filter Queen parts, original NOS Kirby handle stickers (DS50,DS80, Omega, etc!)Kirby Dirt Meters, Kirby Air Powered Trimmer, Metal Hoover Brush Strips, Brushrolls, Fans, etc!

This is just a taste of the inventory that was in the shop. We are talking NOS Kirby Sentrias, Gen 5's, Koblentz Industrial Upright, Rubbermaid Commercial Upright, on and on. With the exception of the Montgomery Wards Two Speed Cordaway Upright NO OTHER VINTAGE OR ANTIQUE MACHINES ARE BEING SOLD. I know, a major bummer, but TekVenture is wanting to preserve them and make a museum or display area for them so all can enjoy. The Hoover Windtunnel in the front is NOS with the attachments still taped to the back from the factory. Other, not new machines include Sharp Twin Energy, Hoover Guardsman, Panasonic, Kenmore, Royal, and a hoard of used but working Kirbys.

Kirby and Firfax Fax-O-Matic with all attachments. The power nozzle motor was bad so I replaced it with a NOS Eureka motor. It is in excellent working condition and will most likely go to Ebay.

Tower Electrolux

These are a mix of working and non working electrolux's. There are hoses somewhere in the building and when it comes time to sell these we will do our best to match up hoses. The 1205 on the very top was wrapped in plastic and by all appearances is flawless!

Robert,

I am wondering if you might happen to have a Kirby 500505 double-bristle brush roll (13") that I could use for my Dual Sanitronic 80?

Thank you,

.
.

I fully understand sentimentality, but it's kind of a shame that they're not going to sell the vintage machines: That's where the most money would be made -- especially on eBay. And since this is a fundraiser by a nonprofit organization, one would think they would want to raise as much cash as possible.

In lieu of a "museum" of vacuum cleaners (that eventually will be viewed as "in the way" and get cast aside) how about an exhibit of photos of the machines, the shop & store, the owners etc etc.

Just my 137¢'s worth.......

They have me undertaking all of the preservations of the antique machines, so intend to photograph, restore and preserve them as long as I can. I will eventually be photographing and talking about them soon I hope :)

You do know the 500505 brushes are still available from Kirby?

Ray,

I don't... but am hoping to get one, though. Call Kirby at 1-800-437-7170 to ask them for whatever dealer might still have that brush roll you want.

I don't want one, I was just letting you know that they are still available through Kirby.

Any dealer that can order from Kirby can get the 500505 brush for you.

I personally prefer the 2 row brush on my D50 and D80.

If you come across a Hoover Concept One Power Drive

from the late '70s or early '80s, I need the handle support piece. Mine cracked when it was being shipped to me back in January. If you could find one that would be great. Below is a picture of the part from a message thread I made back in January, and for the heck of it, I'll throw in the link to the thread.

"Clean out at Sweeper Shop"

Hello!

This is very interesting as we were there last year just before they had closed and tried to contact them with no response from anyone!
I had seen a couple machines I was interested in and would like to ask you about them if you know if they are still there.
Could you call me @ 414-421-5116 in early evening.

Thank You!

Airwaylady

"waste of vintage machines"

As above they will save much of what is in IN.
I have the SAME or SIMILAR HERE that I am trying NOT to waste.
For the collectors who have made the easy trip to TN (or paid shipping)---Thank You!I think you got a lot of good interesting, rare vacs at a good price.I hope you enjoy the vacs and the vacs enjoy cleaning their new home. There are other vacs and parts spoken for to be shipped as time allows.
There is MUCH more here that can not be kept for musuem setting. Some will be kept longer but if any are interested NOW is the time for the TN vacs & parts & hoses & atts & power nozzles!!!
More in warehouse threads,Jimmy

It was quite a challenge to get involved in this as the current owners (sons of the original owners)are incredibly busy folks. I pretty much had to do a stakeout on the building and catch people there to get involved. Airwaylady, I will give you a call tonight to answer any questions you may have!

I need the base for a hoover quadraflex powernozzle. Sold with dimension, spectrum, powermax and I think the high-end futura canisters too. a parts pn from either machine would work too, all I'd have to do is put my hood on.

Why would they wire it so that the motor would not run if the bulb is burnt? Seems very inconvenient especially if the bulb burnt out while vacuuming. Also what does the normal/deep clean switch do? Is it just a low/high speed switch?

Thanks,
Gary

Any Kenmore canister vacuums and parts, particulary 1980's and early 1990's stuff. Cord winders, Type E vacuum bag adapters (the vacuum is uselss without the adapter and believe me I've tried), lids, hinges, hoses, switches, anything for those older Kenmore canisters.

Once we are done sorting the good ones from the bad I will most likely ask 15 to 20 bucks a piece on them. There are some nice XXX, LX, and a stunningly clean 1205.

Still interested in any Kenmore vacs, Powermates and parts when they become available and any Lamb 5.7 inch through flow motors, including central vacuum motors, you want to part with. Just let me know. I hate to see stuff end up in the dumpster that could be used to revive a worthy old vacuum.
