When they say floor polisher, does this mean you can polish hardwood with it? If so how exactly does this work, and any tips?

The answer

is YES , YOU can polish floors with it. You just need the buffing brushes, Green pads and Buffing pads and you are good to go. The instruction manual will help with knowing how to polish the floor. Don't have a manual? You can download one on the Aerushome.com site.
