Miele S318i - Cheese Edition

Checkrate/Likes 3 Answered an email from freecycle yesterday lunchtime about a Miele that had been in a shed the last few years... WCPGW? Turned up after work, and the bloke led me down his garden to this massive almost barn. Inside was the Miele sat on some racking. All tools handed over, I thanked him and drove home. Sadly when he was fetching it off the racking I noticed the tool compartment cover was broken, and the tubes were rusty, so this would be a parts machine. Then I thought about making it into a shed vac. Either way, I got home and had a look. Plonked it on the table and nearly just plugged it in and tried it but I opened the bag compartment and dropped it back down again in surprise when a mouse popped out of the hose entry part! Amy went and picked it up and I got a box to put it in and got Eva so she could see the mousey. Sadly it freaked a bit and jumped out the box onto the table. Amy picked it up and it ran up her arm over her back and away. Oh dear, never mind says I as I go to take the chewed bag out... From Mouse Miele! WTF... From Mouse Miele! 3 mice rolled out the bag, and 2 more were inside it. We cut the bag open carefully and got them out and put the bag in the black bin. From Mouse Miele! We called Amys sister who is a farmy type who said to take them to our local animal sanctury, luckily only a few minutes up the road, so off we went From Mouse Miele! From Mouse Miele! The little brown woodmice were taken into triage and fed. Job done we went home. And it all went downhill from there... From Mouse Miele! From Mouse Miele! I did fire Miele an email off asking if they still sold these but it's a bit academic now... missing the bag door latch From Mouse Miele! From Mouse Miele! Very rusty From Mouse Miele! Will clean up ok From Mouse Miele! surprisingly the tools were almost immaculate From Mouse Miele! As was the hose From Mouse Miele! Plugged it in and the motor barely span and sounded awful. Took out the rusty screws and Ah... From Mouse Miele! From Mouse Miele! Ruined! Did toy with getting it running again as these motors do split down but it stinks of mouse wee! Currently its all sat in a bin bag destined for the wheelie bin along with the bottom chassis. If it smells a bit better when I get home from work I may take it out and run the pressure washer over it all to make it more bearable. Or just bin it. not decided. Good parts available for anyone include: Cord Winder Tools (excl tubes) Top part of the chassis/bag compartment control unit plastics It's certainly a first in my collecting life!

Checkrate/Likes How cute - the meeces must have thought the yellow colour of the machine was a big piece of cheese! Needless to say, it didn't smell very fresh. I used to keep mice, rats, guinea pigs and gerbils and know how bad rodent pee smells!

Checkrate/Likes I can still smell it when I stand by the wheelie bin! And the motors in an asda bag in a black bin liner!

Checkrate/Likes 1 OMG.. well played on the Mice!! Such a breath of fresh air to hear how someone does a wonderfully nice deed for nature and its creatures.. So often these anecdotes on the internet end with how much fun someone had inhumanely killing the mice or whatever other unfortunate animal that may be involved. clap clap To you! Maybe giving the motor a good washing with some sort of oil based cleaner for motors may do the trick on the odor? I love my Miele vacuum haha
