Hi I was thinking about getting a Kirby G7D,I wanted to know how reliable the tech drive is, about how long until they go bad and need replaced. Thanks in advance
Mark

I generally don't see problems with the transmission itself, so it should last many many years without a single issue. The part I do often replace is the selector pedal assembly, the cam on the inside on some more recent models will work its way loose. I've also replaced a couple of the "bracket cam assemblies" as the end that pulls the drive sprocket back to disengage the drive will sometimes wear down and not pull it back far enough and cause a clicking sound when pushing the machine in neutral. But overall its a very reliable transmission with very few problems.

I also have a question about Tech Drive

I have a Sentria G10D and with Tech Drive engaged the machine moves easily when pulled backward but has more resistance when pushed forward even with the floor nozzle raised all the way up. Shouldn't it move with equal resistance in both directions?

Could this be just an adjustment or a more serious problem?

That is an adjustment on the handle bracket (you have to get the top cover off to get to the two screws that are on the bracket).

My Kirby G5 was purchased in 1999. So that makes it 15 years old this spring. We have never had a problem with the TechDrive or anything else save two minor issues relating to wear and tear. Somehow the outer bag has gotten a small hole in it down near the bottom. I imagine it's from rubbing against walls and furniture. Our cord has also came loose. I don't know what it's called but it is the rubber that attaches the cord to the machine itself not the handle. Down near where the power button is. It broke loose several years ago and now dangles on the floor and we have to watch it or it gets caught in the wheels. Those two minor flaws are all we've had go wrong. No problems with the mechanicals.
