Wow! That was a lot of work Kyle!

Thanks for the book. It's really detailed and involved. I'd like to see one of those Air-Ways in person!

Kewl! Thanks! BTW,no wonder it was called an Airway ,and with aviation symbols to boot.
Tuck this in,grease that there.
It's high maintenance was like running a private plane,LOL!
Great vacuum,though!

Well, it was a lot of work...but after all, it's not everyday you can see a color scan of an Air-Way manual! :-)

Say, Rick...we are talking about a South-Eastern mini-meet...but more on that later!

Well, it isn't too high maintenance...after all...how many people would have actually read the instruction manual anyways? :-)

It's a neat one!

The book is both informative and well-illustrated. I've seen a few of these Airways before, but never saw one running. Amazing how versatile they were.

Excellent!Reminds me of how to use the Kirby. That Air Way Upright-GREAT MACHINE-maybe revive them and sell them DTD today-would make for an impressive in home demo!

Haha! I don't know if they will be selling them anytime soon...it's a good design, don't get me wrong...but unless they put a brush roll and a motor on them and beef up the motors...I don't think they would last.

Yeah...and how about blow drying your hair using the hot air from an oven? Pretty cool!

Thanks for sharing

Thanks for sharing all of the pages of this manual and for the effort you put in to do this. I have two Airway uprights, one of them the one pictured in the manual and the other with a black bag and gold "Air-Way" on it, but have never seen an owner's manual before.

Air Way Tool?

I just was reading through the manual above and saw something that caught my eye. It looks like I may have an upholstery tool for an old Air Way. I got this attachment with a bunch of stuff at an auction that had a ton of vac stuff from one that closed. I practically bought all the vac stuff, several car loads. Anyways, I had this rubber piece that I didn't know what it was for. I almost threw it away since I didn't think it was even for a vacuum. But I still have it. It's pictured below. Can someone confirm if it is in fact an Air Way tool? Thanks.

Chad

Greetings!

Say...you will have to show me a picture of that one with the black and gold bag! Isn't that the first model? Does it have butterflies on the tag? If so, it is indeed the first! I have one myself, although I still haven't gotten around to restoring it.

Yes, Chad! That is indeed Air-Way! Although that could also be for the 55, it sure is Air-Way! Nice find!

I don't know about using the oven as a heat source for the Air Way vacuum to dry hair-And the idea of picking up ashes from ash trays doesn't sound good-good way to catch the vac bag on fire-or how bout the celliod suction veiwing window wouldn't be good if that caught on fire.Note that VCMA association recommendations don't recommend picking up hot or live ashes with any vacuum cleaner.

Can anyone tell me...

...exactly when my one dates from? There is NO info available anywhere on UK 240v Airways, other that what is on the Simply Switch On site, and that doesn't mention the one I have.

Haha, Rex! I don't think I would EVER risk my Air-Ways to pick up ashes or dry my hair...although I don't think that the hot air would be too bad. Even if the handle is plastic, it has a lot of cooler air around it, and I am pretty sure that it could take it...but as I say...I won't risk it! :-)

Man, Jack!! That is a BEAUTY!!! Say...what is that sticker on the front of the nozzle? Also, does yours not have a motor tag? And what does it say on the switch? That's a pretty bag on yours, too! The only information I have on Air-Way uprights is this, which was a P.O.D. a long time ago.

Chad, yes, that is an Air-Way dusting tool. It fits over the flat-end "crack cleaner."

It doesn't say anything in your manual, does it? Anyways...BEAUTIFUL! Great job again!

From my Airway manual:

It didn't come with my machine, I bought it on ebay.com. I can't decide whether the Airway shown in these pages is older or newer than the one Kyle posted here; the manual itself is simpler in design, but the cleaner has more features. Perhaps someone will know!

The Junior Service:

I love how dismissive Airway is about other manufacturer's half-held cleaners!

Using as a general bug-exterminator!

There are quite a few pages on this - these are the most interesting. I wonder if anyone still has an Airway Gas Container?

I like the conversion of The Air-Way into the "Junior" hand and "hip" vacuum.Clever! And the Air Way "fumigation" cabinet involving the Air Way cleaner as a blower to blow moth crystals into the enclosure.

Me too, in every way the Air-Way Sanitary System was ahead of its time. I liked them way better than the canister models that followed. As versatile as the Kirby, and much lighter in weight!
