I've wanted a Dyson Ball vacuum for a long time now and yesterday I FINALLY bought one. I chose the DC40 Origin because of the smaller size and that it's a bit easier to maneuver then the DC41 and DC65. The price was also cheaper. 399 at Bed Bath And Beyond. Anyway I've used it once so far to clean the house from top to bottom and I'm impressed! I love the active baseplate when going from hardwood to carpet it really maintains suction power on all serfaces without missing any dirt weather it be small or large. I also LOVE the ball it's so easy to use and I can just fly around the house sucking up everything in sight! I'm very happy with my purchase! Just wish it had a longer cord.

The DC41. I owned one for a while, and thought it was one of the most refined, and best cleaning Dysons I had ever used. I thought it was a huge upgrade over the DC25, in both performance (it cleans carpets and bare floors much better), and usability (I like the longer hose and cord on the DC41, and the smoother maneuverability). It was quieter than most Dyson uprights I've used, as well! They've really come a long way since they launched in the US over a decade ago. I've been trying to hunt down a used DC41 lately, to rebuild and keep. Either that, or wait and get the new DC65. The idea of a more powerful DC41 sounds great!

I could say that the Dyson DC40 would be better than the Hoover Alyx - but only just! |

At least it has decent Cyclone Technology (Dyson), but at least the Hoover has a decent price compared to Dyson's. |

I had the original red Hoover Alyx upright - looking back it wasn't a bad upright because it was so compact but the filters were horrendous - a three part design that was more messy than convenient. Of course it was based on the Dirt Devil Vibe Quick Vac, which I was surprised about given Hoover Europe are not part of then-pre-TTI owned Dirt Devil of America.
But then Hoover also got the Dirt Devil based Freejet as well. Then Hoover remodelled the hood and Tesco started selling the old model under the Genic vac name, of which ASDA now sell. Though the latest Alyx upright has been tarted up yet again, and selling in Tesco under the "Smart" label, which is confusing given that Hoover have already got a Smart model based on the Hurricane. |
