I've wanted a Dyson Ball vacuum for a long time now and yesterday I FINALLY bought one. I chose the DC40 Origin because of the smaller size and that it's a bit easier to maneuver then the DC41 and DC65. The price was also cheaper. 399 at Bed Bath And Beyond. Anyway I've used it once so far to clean the house from top to bottom and I'm impressed! I love the active baseplate when going from hardwood to carpet it really maintains suction power on all serfaces without missing any dirt weather it be small or large. I also LOVE the ball it's so easy to use and I can just fly around the house sucking up everything in sight! I'm very happy with my purchase! Just wish it had a longer cord.

I really like...

The DC41. I owned one for a while, and thought it was one of the most refined, and best cleaning Dysons I had ever used. I thought it was a huge upgrade over the DC25, in both performance (it cleans carpets and bare floors much better), and usability (I like the longer hose and cord on the DC41, and the smoother maneuverability). It was quieter than most Dyson uprights I've used, as well! They've really come a long way since they launched in the US over a decade ago. I've been trying to hunt down a used DC41 lately, to rebuild and keep. Either that, or wait and get the new DC65. The idea of a more powerful DC41 sounds great!

I had a DC41 Animal for a repair, it was soooo crap!
Suction bad, Performance not as good as a DC04 with clutch, the design is awful, the machine has a plastic wand, the build quality is poor and The brustles are the same stiffness as a DC01!

PS the DC40 does have stiffer bristles which is an advantage
Be careful you don't break the side ball (opposite the Post motor filter) as they always break
Glad you are happy, but I prefer the DC25 as it is much better in most ways
Quality, Performance, Suction, Design, Durability, noise level, reliability and ease of use

Mr Parwaz? Reply #5? Am I hearing you right that you think a Dyson is crap? You are in agreement with AlexHoovers94?

Wonders will never cease!

Oh god, the Hoover Alyx. Probably the 2nd poorest machine Hoover/Candy could ever produce, aside from 'The One'. I saw one go on a Car Boot once, the machine was boxed & only used once, didn't even go for £5! Think the seller wanted rid of the blasted thing. You can buy them of Hoover.co.uk for £49.99.

I could say that the Dyson DC40 would be better than the Hoover Alyx - but only just!

At least it has decent Cyclone Technology (Dyson), but at least the Hoover has a decent price compared to Dyson's.

Slightly off topic but the Alyx name reminds me...

I had the original red Hoover Alyx upright - looking back it wasn't a bad upright because it was so compact but the filters were horrendous - a three part design that was more messy than convenient. Of course it was based on the Dirt Devil Vibe Quick Vac, which I was surprised about given Hoover Europe are not part of then-pre-TTI owned Dirt Devil of America.

But then Hoover also got the Dirt Devil based Freejet as well. Then Hoover remodelled the hood and Tesco started selling the old model under the Genic vac name, of which ASDA now sell.

Though the latest Alyx upright has been tarted up yet again, and selling in Tesco under the "Smart" label, which is confusing given that Hoover have already got a Smart model based on the Hurricane.

I agree with you Pawaz,

I much prefer a Dyson DC25 over a DC40 or DC41 any day. At least a DC25 has a proper solid aluminium wand and a foot pedal at the bottom to release the head. It just feels like a better built machine. Though I guess if I had one, I'd get used to it.

I hope Dyson rectifies the design on the ball that breaks off on the DC41 machine. If Dyson conduct the drop test, I'm surprised this issue exists. Maybe the users dropped their machines, it shouldn't happen anyway.

The newer Dyson's are not quality machines, I find them to be flimsy and overpriced for what they are. However, they perform a lot better than the Dyson machines previously.

The last half decent design that came out of Malmesbury was probably the DC25. It's not a bad vacuum, but not as sturdy as a DC04. The DC04 was in view the best Dyson ever made.

In the modern world of vacuum cleaners, it's Numatic and Sebo who are the best for quality. No doubt about it.

Rootcyclone,

I again agree with what you say. The only thing I like about Dysons newest machines are that they are quieter than the previous generation. My DC24 is pretty loud for only a 650watt motor and at present the noise from the brushbar is simply horrendous. I'll get round to changing the brushbar - this is down to poor design on both the DC24 and DC25 where the brush and end cap wears out very quickly and creates rattling.

Sebo are not bad machines but the power cords are not the best for durability on the machines are they do look a little dated but apart from that they are good. Numatic don't appeal to me as no upright. I've never used a Miele upright I wonder what they are like.

Blakaeg, I am currently considering a KIrby vacuum which is the most powerful vacuum, more powerful than a Numatic, Miele, Sebo, Etc
They are between £0 to £300 but they are well worth it, and they are metal so you can sell a good vacuum made of metal (worth a lot) for wt you want

no worries Parwaz. I have a vacuum which is fine for the time being ;))

Everytime I test out a Dyson at a shop or use one (particular the DC40, DC01, DC25 & DC04) I have found them to be very clunky & hard to move. When I had my DC04 I found it quite awkward to steer &go around corners. Even the DC25, because it is heavy & clunky, even with a ball in place. I would much prefer one of their cylinders but they never come up for sale in my local area.

Really? DC01? lol it barely lifts the carpet :P
The DC04, I find it sticks to the carpet and half floors well but is still easy to move on Carpets. the DC25 dpoes not seem hard to move at all
when I was the DC41 Animal in for repair, It turned smoothly but It felt like the wand handle, and the body was going to SNAP
