Calling All Dyson Fans!

I asked this before but I wanted to ask again since some members on here may own newer Dyson models from 2014.

Which Dyson models use 32mm tools without adaptors - i.e, can they use other branded tools without the use of an adapter? I know the DC04 can because I had one of those and they could use any 32mm tool, but what of the much later Dyson vacuums?

Yes, Dysons can use other branded tools, these are; the DC01, DC02, DC03, DC04, DC05, DC07, DC14, DC15 and DC18. Unfortunately the new Dyson's from DC19 on wards require "click fit" tools which have very small diameters and rely on a clip to hold them in place.
The DC08- DC32 (I think)need 35MM tools.

PS to use the latest Dyson tools with 32 mm, you can get an adapter, for example you can use the new tangle free turbine head on the DC07/ 04 by buying a universal adapter which Dyson sells for a few quid.

Hope this helped!

One point

I wanted to add, is that despite using a bog-standard 32mm push fitting, the design of cuffs and wands on the upright cleaners, and the clip the fittings of the DC05 cylinder, is such that although any 32mm would fit the tubing, the additional mouldings, clips, and handles around the outside edge of these cleaners means that many tools are physically incapable of being used if the outer edge of that tool is too broad / thick to sit around the aforementioned protrusions.

Also with 04, 07, and 14 uprights, the only tools which can really be used directly on the end of the cuff are those supplied by Dyson as it is the outside edge of the tool which sits inside the cuff, rather than a tube fitting into the tool as one might expect.

The dc15 and I THINK the dc18 have quite a bit narrower fitting, the wand diameter on my dc15 is tiny!!!

Your welcome :)
and George I thought the DC14 and DC15 wands are the same? :P

Parwaz - the dc15 wand is not the same as the Dc14 - the DC15 has a thinner wand - it has specific tools that fit it, that wont fit the Dc14.

Dyson is not stupid - he wants to maximize profits.

Right...

So the next question I'd like to ask is...

Given that some Dyson models can use other brand 32mm tools, what about Dyson tools - are they all 32mm IN TERMS of the Dyson kits you can buy, or do they require special adaptors for non-Dyson vacuums like fitting to Numatic Henry or Vax, or Hoover.

It depends, some are, some aren't. All the new tools however do require a certain very inexpensive adaptor tool so that they can fit other 32mm vacuums.

Sebo-fan, All of the tools (including floor tools) available for the DC01,2,3, 4, 7 and 14 cleaners had an internal diameter which will fit any 32mm tube.

The floor tools of the DC05 will not fit a 32mm tube as these are a tiny bit wider and rely on clip fitting to keep them in place on the DC05 tubes. That said, the small tools will still fit a 32mm tube as they did not clip onto the DC05, they just pushed on like one might expect them too. Even though the DC05 motor head had much wider tubes which fitted over the outside edge of the tools, the internal diameter of the small tools will still fit a 32mm tube.

Cylinder models from DC08 onwards are a mine field as there are at least three different fittings used that I can think of (minimum of two sizes on the DC08 and then the new clip-fitting - possibly even more).

May I ask why you need to know? I'm intrigued.

Yeah, you can use Dyson tools on other vacuums. The DC01, DC04, Dc07 and DC14 tools will fit a regular vacuum (modern) with 32mm.
The universal adaptor can be purchased to use the new latest tools with the click fit tools. You can use the click fit tools with any 32mm vacuum wand/handle
