I have been eyeing the new Hoover "Oreck Clone" for several months now because of the high ratings it has received in Consumer Reports testing. I know many of you dislike CR, but I have had very good shopping results by using their reports to buy electrical goods. And the Hoover Platinum Bagged upright has rated "Excellent" for deep carpet cleaning. It's also very lightweight (13 lbs), has a nice long cord (35 feet) and a very large bag that is really simple to change.

The companion silver PortaPower canister that is included in the box was not tested, but that does not bother me as I already own a great Electrolux UltraSilencer Green for non-carpet cleaning. The companion PortaPower will make a nice third minivac for certain jobs. I was really only interested in acquiring this simple, fan-first upright that in essence is a modern version of a Eureka Bravo or Hoover Elite without the useless on-board tools.

Anyhow, here in Canada, Home Depot has been selling the pair of vacs for $459, and Sears has been selling the package for $399. But until March 19, Sears has it on sale for $339!!!!

So I caved in, put it on the credit card and brought her home! I love this upright! It is so simple and elegant and gets the job done with a mere 5.5 amp motor! The fan is probably about 6 inches away from the carpet, and the WindTunnel suction channels spread out the suction really well across the 12" nozzle. Now why can't TTI sell a Vax version of this modern Hoover Junior to our friends in the UK?

If you need a great, simple fan first upright that is quieter than the Riccar Supralight, and cleans carpets and pet hair better than the Oreck Magnesium...run to Sears Canada this week and bring one home for yourself:

Yah...I know Walmart USA was also selling it for $220. But I'd burn up this difference in gasoline just driving to upstate NY and back! :-)

On low speed, it makes such a nice purring sound - no need for a 12amp motor screaming like a 747 engine! The "soft start" when you press the illuminated power button is very kewl and "high tech"....

Nice LED headlight too.
