Hello,

Following are Electrolux USA post cards over the years. Your comments and additions are welcome!

Circa 1952 - (The Model LX was the first to have the disposable bags--aka wrappers--that " ... you never have to empty!")

Circa 1961 FRONT SIDE (presenting the new aqua Model G canister & attachments--note the aqua B-7 floor polisher-scrubber and Turbotool rug washer which preceded the B-8 floor polisher-scrubber and new rug washer, respectively, that debuted about a year later):

Circa 1961 BACK SIDE (note the telephone # among other items):

Circa 1965 (hmmm ... maybe that's when the B-8 floor polisher-scrubber made its debut?) Awesome aqua!!!!

Circa 1968 (when the Model 1205 made its debut): Terrific Teal!!!! Note the red "boat-shaped" border around the 'Electrolux' letters. In the last version, around 1972, I think the border was black.

Circa 1969 (telescoping wand and harvest gold and orange carpeting): Terrific Teal!!!

Circa 1971 (going by the non-telescopic wand, teal PN-1, the woman's wig--popular around that time, and of course the groovy avocado green carpeting!):

Post# 271410 , Reply# 8   3/11/2014 at 23:27 (3,669 days old) by kevin (Livonia)

Circa 1974 (note that the gold B-8 floor polisher-scrubber is hadn't yet made its debut; it's hard to detect in this photo, but the "boat-shaped" border around the Electrolux letters was gold--it was black on the Super J. This is the first Electrolux machine to have both a name (Golden J) and a model id (1205 J); previously only model ids were given) Grand Gold!!!!

Circa 1977 FRONT SIDE (the year the first upright, Model 1363, made its debut. Ah, yes, the gold B-8 floor polisher-scrubber. Note the white hose with the trio of teal/gold/teal stripes just like the Golden J's): Grand Gold!!!!

Great pictures and information. I really enjoyed looking at the photos. That green carpet is hideous though... Not because of the color...because it looks like huge bunches has been pulled out and is lying there like big green dust bunnies.

1986 FRONT SIDE New Discovery II (replaces the Model 1451-E--not shown on this thread--which debuted with Diamond J/1521 and had the same colors; DII is the first 'L-shaped' power nozzle upright; also same colors as Diamond J/1521):

Funny, Christopher (#12)! Well, that's all I was able to find at this time. Would be great to get those for (deluxe) Models E, A-E, F, Olympia One/1401-B, and more recent ones (taking for granted that the economy models were never featured on courtesy cards). I'll keep looking.

Electrolux branches and cards

At the time of the card in reply 15 the branches received vinyl stripes in the same colors as a border to front display windows.

Thanks for your responses, Charles (#22), Phillip (#23), and Jimmy (#24).

Charles, I didn't realize that the cards went as far back as the Model XXXs. Hope you are able to find those along with the Models E-A, and F.

Phillip, I'm not aware of another upright so am curious to see what you find.

Jimmy, I like hearing anecdotes of yours. If you have any pics of your branch office over the years please post them or let me know where I can see them if they've already been posted.

Early 1982 (another Silverado/1505-era card--note that the B-8 is featured soon to be replaced by the B-9. Oh, and look ... I wonder if the upright is the one which Philip had mentioned in reply #23?):

Which upright model was in the #26 card, then? I thought the 1363 was only in yellow and tan. I'm guessing that it is the Model 1451. Was it gray? It's hard to tell from the card.

Anyway, here's another Super J courtesy card:

Thanks so much for scanning those,,have always loved looking at them.

The card that shows the Golden J, with the blue carpet, is the card the saleman left with my Grandma when she bought her Golden J in the Spring of 1976. Her machine is this exact model, with the 50th Anniversary stickers.
Evidently the end of the Golden Js, before start of the selling of the Super J.

Notice on the 2 cards for the Silverado Deluxe,,the first one is a first run Silverado,,the front handle behind the on/off swith is missing, and Same body style as the Super J, only in Silver.

One the second card, the handle IS there, so evidently a little later production, but still in 1982,, But both cards show the same PN.

Post# 272151 , Reply# 38   3/16/2014 at 16:35 (3,665 days old) by kevin (Livonia)

You're welcome for the pics, Brian. Thanks for your reply (#37). They aren't my scans, though. They are mostly from eBay listings and one or more are from other online sites.

Thanks for pointing out the differences between the handle styles of the Silverados (#s 15 & 26) and telling about your grandma's 1976 Golden J/1205-J. Regarding the different styles of handles, John (tig21er) pointed out in another thread that both the Olympia One/1401 and early Silverado/1505 had the same horizontal handles (shorter than the Super J/1401) and vertical finger grip. The later version of the Olympia One, Model 1401-B, and the later versions of the Silverado/1505 had the two handles for each carrying position. Regarding the power nozzle, the PN-5 must have debuted with the last version of the Silverado (with the 'Silverado Deluxe' decal affixed behind the blower port).

Silverado Deluxe decal (don't know what the graphic is supposed to be):

Thank you Kevin! Yeah ive always wondered what that little graphic was meant to be on the Silverado logo too,,dont know.

Notice on the back of the card that introduces the Discovery Upright,,,they mention the "High Performance Rebuilds".
I bought a rebuilt 1205 in 1986 from the Lux salesman,,it was an excellent vacuum. It was all grey hamertone with lighter gray speckles in it. I remember at the time they also had Factory Rebuilt Model Gs and Model Ls. I could have my choice.
I think the 1205 was 200 dollars.
This 1205 did NOT come with a PN, or power hose in the box tho,,just the standard 3 Electrolux attachments, standard hose and 2 aluminum wands. The PN and Power Hose were still considered optional equipment.

I went to the Electrolux office to buy the 1205,,and asked if it came with a PN,, they said no,and wanted to sell me a NEW PN which at the time would have been the PN that went with the DIamond J,,and Power Hose for 250 dollars. I didnt have that kind of money,so the salesman sold me a used hose and PN2 for 50 dollars.

Wish i still had that 1205. Traded it all for a Model LE when they came out in around 1990. Im pretty sure it was around 300 dollars.

The salesman gave me 50 dollars off for the Rebuilt 1205 and PN. Shouldnt have done that, have always regretted it. That Model LE only lasted about 13 yrs. I bet that 1205 would still be going to this day.

Kevin, that grey "thing" looks like a 16th century Spanish conquistador helmet.

Post# 272239 , Reply# 41   3/17/2014 at 12:49 (3,664 days old) by ronni (USA)

From Wikipedia: The name Silverado is a type of Spanglish indicating a place where silver is found; a parallel formation to El Dorado (Spanish for "the gilded place").

Going with Kirbytradition 7's idea that the symbol resembles a conquistador's (conqueror's) helmet; it likely was used in reference to its silver color. So maybe the idea of the namesake, besides the color, is that you can conquer the dust and dirt in your house!

By the way, there is also a Silverado Canyon in California in which the town of Silverado and Silverado Creek are located (so named because of the silver which was originally mined there).

Conquistador's helmet with an embossed fleur-de-lis (another symbol Electrolux used in the '60s on product labels):

Kevin, in order to post more than one photo in a thread you have to know how to write HTML (web page) code. I've suggested in the past that it might be a good feature for people to be able to post multiple photos at once with the Vacuumland interface, but I guess folks are afraid that people will deluge the forum with photos -- so you have to post them one at a time unless you can write your own code to do it.

Post# 275974 , Reply# 52   4/13/2014 at 00:54 (3,637 days old) by electromatik (Taylorsville, North Carolina, U.S.A.)
@Kevin

In reply 46 those are Epic machines. The canister on the far right in the first picture is the Epic 6500SR. Not sure about the model of the central vacuum or the floor pro. The upright is Epic too. In the second pic is the Genesis upright and what looks like either an Ambassador or Diplomat. If it had the dial and lights it was probably the Diplomat. The same progression of the 2100. The bottom picture says that's a Legacy canister but it looks like an Ultralux from that era with metal body and dial on the front door.

Post# 286330 , Reply# 53   6/26/2014 at 20:30 (3,562 days old) by kevin (Livonia)

A belated thanks for reply #52, Christopher. Regarding your last comment about the Legacy/Model 1521 looking like the Ultralux/Model 1521 of the same era it is interesting to note that the Grand Marquise, Legacy, and Ultralux looked identical (not sure if there were internal differences) to one another although the Ultralux had a name label behind the blower port. The way to tell the difference between the Grand Marquise and Legacy is that the former's serial id's letters were M_F, and the latter's serial id letters were M_L. The last versions of the Model 1521--Ultralux Classic, and Ultralux LX--also had name labels. Their colors were reversed from the first three mentioned--they had navy bodies with sand trim.

Mike (#50), I got the pics online from various sources--mostly eBay. Glad you like the thread.

Charles (#51), belated thanks for the info. Thankfully, that issue has been made more easily accessible.

Again, if anyone knows the years of the cards from replies 46 and 47 along with the makes and models of the machines please post them on this thread.
