I was a latter day fan of Beatles in the mid to late 70's and early 80's. Although most all their albums remained in print, if you wanted an original, or at least a 60's pressing, you had to buy used. But they were very rarely seen at a thrift store and if found were often in terrible condition.
Yet they were the 60's biggest act and sold scads of records...well, people held on to those records so originals were/are perversely rare. Okay i think you might be able to guess what i'm getting at. What vintage vac do we see far less because it is still doing yeoman's service more than a decade in this new century? okay i got one, Electrolux canister vacuums. These seem to be loved not only here on VL but, 'out there' as well...'cause i have only found a single Lux in my travels. That vac, (i think a 60's model) was in a trash pile here in NYC. I have yet to do anything more that test it and found out it does indeed work. It will be my car vac in San Diego starting this summer.
Frankly they look busy but boring to me. I like a splash of color, or Bauhaus like design, or something. That said, quiet, durable and effective can win a guy over...as with the Royal uprights. I suspect they are often bought for resale on Ebay before i find them...but usually to be a working vac like the Kirby's also sold there; unlike Hoover Convertibles which are usually sold on Ebay as collectors items it seems. |
