So, I got a phonecall about a broken vacuum I could have for free. Turns out it was a fully working dyson dc14 with all the tools... But it certainly wasn't clean!! |

Anyway, stripped down to discover that the motor was replaced in 2009 (found a repair sticker on the back of it, they payed £70 for a new motor in 2009 and £40 for a service in 2007!) |

Looks a whole lot like Soot, likely from vacuuming out an older wood-burning stove or fireplace. Defiantly not good for the filters, or motor for that matter. If they keep using the cleaner on Soot that's likely why the motor was replaced in 2009. As with any vacuums, Replace the filters! (Never could break down a dyson, esp. the Cyclones! need to learn how one day ). |

Definitely looks like soot from a chimney. Looks exactly like what we got when we cleaned our wood stove's chimney a while back. I used a crummy bagless Bissell to clean up after and the soot stained all of the clear plastic parts and hose. I completely tore it down and washed everything and it still smells like soot. Oh well, at least it wasn't a rare or collectible machine.
