As this year has almost past, and it has been my most involved ever in the area of vacuum cleaners: collecting (again), refurbishing, the club, the website, etc. The limits I have set for myself as to the number of vacuums in my possession have fallen by the wayside now more than twice. And so it seems that I must have a Canadian Electrolux. I will stand by and see what you guys come up with as to which model I will pursue. Let me know your favorites, or most popular machines, or maybe the ones that do the most tricks. I appreciate the help. A little tip, I seem to be partial to the greenish looking one, looks like an American "AE" laid on it's side. (sort of) Thanks again, Rick

Hi Rick. I highly recommend the vacuum you mentioned, the model 89 "Elux-o-matic". As I mentioned in another thread, this is my favorite Electrolux of all time, although you certainly couldn't go wrong with a model 88 Elux-o-matic (same as the 89 but in dark red with cream/silver trim). Even a mention of these machines gets me salivating; they have great suction and are built like tanks. I prefer the models equipped for a power nozzle (plug in the handle), but that's just me.

I too like the Lux 89. It is very quiet, easy to use and built like a tank - must nicer than the current line of Lux's.

They certainly aren't a vacuum, the 88 or 89, that you run across very often if at all in thrift stores or flea markets from my experience. I wouldn't doubt that many are still in use with the original owners.

Hey Rick:

Actually there are two green machines the model 87 (standard) and the model 89 (delux) as well as a matching shampooer (B21). (Take a look at my web page to see them www.dkas1.50megs.com...) They are farily easy to come by here. I actually have several spare 89's but no parts at the moment (Pete and Dave cleaned me out).

Doug said what I was gonna post now I'm highspeedwireless enabled again - in Minneapolis overnight.

Yes, Doug was very very good to Pete and I as we re-created our 89 sets, well, me, my Mom's green 89. And at the famous Pete & Dave micromeet I found the pale green tool caddy to finish it all off. You'll probably have to do it the way we did - acquireing all the parts one by one over time...and you know how quickly that happens once the word is out. :-)

I too have Doug to thank for not only completing, but OVER-completing, my Z89 -- he provided me with three different power nozzles! It remains one of my favorite and most prized machines. Soooo quiet, soooo powerful!

After swearing off searching for more vacuum cleaners, you would have to set me off again, wouldn't you!

Aha! That's what I'm missing. The 89 Owners Manual.

Yes Charles, that ingeniously engineered ruggedly welded rug rake makes me want to get a 2" wooly shag remnant - in green - just to run it around.

That's how it goes, Fred. I want a Singer S-4 upright soooo bad.

We should start a Xmas Wish List thread. Everyone can list the missing bits & bobs all the way up to complete vacuums they would like/need to have and see what shows up on the doorstep. Probably have the best luck with the Bits & Bobs, tho, as everyone has a spare parts box, right?

Dave
