www.sanitairevac.com/Cleaning-Pro...

I bought this about a month ago for $179.95 from a local Vacuum store in my area... I was tired of the Hand Grip Peeling na dit feeling like it was loosing suction on my Windtunnel Platinum (the oreck clone) and I had bought a Kenmore Canister a few months prior (one of the green ones that was $99 on a sale) and liked neither of them..

I took my Windtunnel in and I walked out with the Sanitaire. I told him I wanted an Old School Style vacuum and one that would survive some one who was rough with stuff (sadly my vacuums don't stay pretty like some of yours). He first offered up a simplicity and then some off brand yellow thing that's by Fuller Brush.. The Sanitaire caught my eye and he explained they where loud but very good.. Just not as user friendly.. He showed me a few in the back that where fairly beat up but still worked and they where heavily used commercial ones..

We discussed that or a Royal that looks a 1920s vacuum with all metal. I couldn't lift that or was willing to pay $400. So the sanitaire with the dirt cup I took (along with there little red commercial canister, which looks like a Eureka Mighty Mite) for $300.00

One thing he said this is baised off the old Eureka uprigts, just more robust..Any turth to that

Second I have a package of belts from 1992 that are for those old Eureka uprights and they look like the spare belt i got with this one. Will they fit (ill attach pic but there round rope like belts)..

Also he said something about washing my bag out once a year, but otherwise it was maintence free

What do you guys think of these?? I plan to use my FQ for deep cleaning weeks, but use my Sanitaire upright and my little red canister sanitaire for daily chores.. I really love them both.. The upright is loud (which is fine) but it cleans amazingly well and although a tad harder to push, seems so sturdy..

That Sanitaire...

Will clean far "deeper" than any Filter Queen. You came home with a great combo at an excellent price if they are new, if used i hope you at least got a good warranty.

The one down side to that particular Sanitaire would be if you, or someone else in your household had allergies. It will blow a good amount of fine dust out of the bag. So regardless, do follow the instructions you were given a give a good cleaning from time to time. If you indeed have allergies in your household you can convert that model to one that takes ST Hepa dust bags that would work far better for you (see pic).

For the money spent, and if it fit's your needs, dollar for dollar i believe that standard commercial Sanitaire (or the Koblenz Powr-Flite etc. clone of it), is the best cleaning value out there in a new vacuum...good job.

The Hoover belts you say are Eureka are not Eureka. Size for the Hoover belt is 3 9/16" and the Eureka is 3 5/8". The difference of a 1/16" isn't much but let it be known there is a difference. You can put the Hoover belt on a Eureka and a Eureka belt on a Hoover if need be.

I found the Hoover belts worked better on the Sanitaire at my church, the Eureka ones barely lasted a week, and started slipping. The Hoover ones would usually last a month or so.

StricklyBoJack-

The Sanitaire I paid $180ish for and have $120 in the Filter Queen. I feel they do amply well, but i like the sanitaire slightly better for ease of use. But the tools and such on the Filter Queem make it worth while

I am thrilled to have a nice set up and have the little red sanitaire canister for cars, garage and such. Works out really well for me

BTW Those belts are in hoover packaging but where made for Eureka Cleaners

The bag...

fr standard commercial Sanitaires come in four basic versions:
1)dirt cup which you now have
2)shake out bag
3) zippered outer bag for F&G style paper inserts (pictured)
4) zippered outer bag for ST style paper inserts

You want number 3 or 4. F&G type, number 3, is what i link to below. Number 4, ST type, is somewhat better performance but at a much great cost for the outer bag (and the inner bags over time) because as far as i know it's only available from Sanitaire whereas the F&G style is available widely in generic form.

You have to be a little handy with a screw driver to install the new outer (zippered bag).

They *are* pretty close to the old Eurekas (and to the new-production, classic-styled Eurekas). They use the same bags (except ST), brush rolls, belts and even motors, I think. The only real difference is a better build quality on the Sanitaires, and a more powerful default motor (7A, versus 5A on the Eurekas).

That said, even the 5A motor is plenty powerful - look at the older Kirbys and Royals with 3/4A motors, and how well they did.

Heavy Duty

We bought a Sanitaire SC886 for our shop in 07/20/11. It's freakin' loud, but kicks butt. We have to buy belts by the ten pack, which isn't bad at $1.50 each. Just replaced the , Motor Drive Pulley a couple months ago, because the belts ate through the original one! The shake out bag is disgusting, but works for this environment.

the sanitaire is one of the most copied vacs out there.....the knock offs you have too remove the motor too replace the fan.....the sanitaire you just remove the quik kleen fan chamber and back in business...

My Sanitaire uprights will be made from 1983 to 1992. The "SC" refers to the heavy-duty commercial "red" line while the "S" refers to those household "blue" equivalents.

My hot sheet:
Model SC679 / S639 "Maid Saver" (4 amps, Disturbulator brush roll)
Model SC684 / S644 (5.5 amps, Vibra-Groomer II brush roll)
Model SC886 / S646 (6.5 amps, Vibra-Groomer II brush roll)
Model SC888 / S648 (6.5 amps, Vibra-Groomer I brush roll, headlight)
Model SC899 / S678 Wide Track (6.7 amps, Vibra-Groomer I brush roll, headlight)
(all of these with a type letter of A, B or D)
