Is it possible to replace or upgrade the motor in a Royal 880?

If you have a 3 amp motor, you can change to a 4.5 amp field and armature.

If you have a 4.5 amp motor, you can change to a 5.4 amp field and armature.

You might have to find donor Royals with these motor sizes, though.

Exactly the info I needed, thanks! I have a decent idea where I might find them, and since the bearings on mine seem to be on the blink, it needs some motor work done anyway.

Or if you want to get creative, you can buy a motor and a rear motor housing and a few other miscellaneous parts from a Model 1030 and you will have one powerful 10 AMP monster.

Well, as luck would have it, I just tripped over an entire rear body assembly from a Royal 671Z, which looks like it ought to bolt right on in place of the old motor assembly. Can't argue with the price, either. If it works, excellent. I'd rather not make a Franken-Royal, but since this motor is on the blink, I'd rather have a working Frankenstein than a dead machine in original condition.
