Hi Tom,
My Rainbow SN is D2-4363915......Is there any way that you might be able too tell me how old it is,and where I might find a new water basin for it?? Buckeye and Steel City claim that this Basin is NLA.
Thanks,
~David

Hi David:
Your model D2 is from 1975 - 1977. The water pan is no longer available, but you should easily be able to visit a vac shop and offer then a few bucks for a used one. There are tons of chrome dome Rainbows that have been traded in and are just sitting in vac shop back rooms waiting to go to the dumpster.

Tom,

I'd like to think my grandma's D2 with the serial no. 3738819 is from 1975 and because of that, the proper Rainbow power nozzle was a model R1024B (the first version to have a 3-wire cord but the last to wear the "Rexair" name on the front label).

Thank you,

Ben

You can always find out the month and year a Rainbow was made. They stamp it into the armature stackings. Just remove the armature, and (after cleaning with a wire brush), look at the stackings for the date stamp. The stackings are the silver part in the middle, not the commutator (which appears brass) nor the copper windings.
