I'm wondering if the turbo sander sucks up the mess as well sanding?

if it is used with the shroud on, it will suck up a lot of the dust.  With the shroud off, then no, it won't.

I was using it to refinish a table in the garage and I know there was a lot less mess using it than my Makita

Its kind of funny, its the only part of the Heritage 2 I still have left that I traded in, I guess I wasn't giving that up? or forgot I had it I suppose.Never should have traded

You will have to change the inner bag after each use of the Turbo Sander if used for woodworking. On models with the reusable (shake out) bag, it will need to be emptied after each use.
