Hello. I'm new to your forum. I have what I consider to be a unique question. I tried searching but to no avail. Please bear with me.
I'm working on my MIL's vacuum. Her daughter thinks it's from the 60's. I don't know.It's a 1205 Electrolux.
It quit working and I dug into it. I had the motor out and I took a piece of emery cloth to all connectors I could see. After I put it back together..it worked! For about 2-3 days. I tired again and no luck. Her daughter bought a new motor from the evacuum store. I had to make up new lead wires as the ones on the original motor were "hard wired" in. Lo and behold...it worked! Then her daughter, my wife, said, honey what's this thingy? It was the piece of PVC type pipe w/soft rubber flute so as to direct the suction. I took it apart and when I got it back together, it no worky? Did I cross the two wires and short out the motor?
Please help me ol wise ones.....PLEASE!!!
The 1205 started with smooth paint in 68,later used textured finish and made through 74.The short plastic tube means it has had a replacement generic motor. As to the problem it may be simple but best seen in person. Also should be no problem finding a part vac.As Ohio had first American Elux factory,Hoover and many vac companies in Cleveland you may have an experienced Elux guy nearby.
