Hi, all ==

I want to sell my Mom's gray-and-creme Electrolux Automatic, Model F. She purchased it in 1957 and is the one-and-only owner.
It's seen better days, but should make a good renovation project for someone who really appreciates these things.

Oddly, I feel a personal attachment to this item. It's one of the first things I knew as an infant crawling around on the floor. I studied it and knew it very well back then, and now consider it something of an 'heirloom' so I want to find 'a good home' for it.

Please advise as to what the ASKING PRICE should be.

If the Electrolux has sentimental value, you should keep it. It is in very poor condition and unlikely you will find a buyer at any price. Sorry to disappoint.

I agree with bagintheback -- this machine is in negligible condition and probably not worth the trouble to try and sell. Especially if you have BIG $$$$ floating around in your eyes.

 Too bad. Thanks to you both for the reality check.

Directly in line with your comments, in my recent research I found one on Craig's List in PRISTINE condition with all original implements/attachments AND the cord winder for a mere $40(!). See link below. So yeah, I see your point.

Q1. Would anybody be interested in mine for PARTS? It seems to run just fine.

Q2. If not, how does one DISPOSE of a vacuum cleaner like this. I can't bear to throw it into a landfill (sniff). Death with 'dignity' if possible.

Q3. Of if I KEEP it, is there a particularly good source for BAGS? Or better yet, is there a NON-disposable bag made for this unit - something that could be emptied and reused?

 A great vac in obviously used condition.But very likely has much use left.Upper wand is not Elux and hose and cord are replaced.Hose may leak air and reduce suction,if so replacementa are available(unlike some fairly recent Chinese types).Anything here is servicable/fixable.The 4 ply self sealing bags are one of the 2 best ever ways to dispose of dirt while you'See No,Touch No,Breathe No' dust.(Compare to any bagless vac at dept store!!)Parts such as wheels can be found(online or maybe at an old vac shop in your region).I would, and do often to others,suggest keeping if only for car and spring cleaning type jobs that it will still do well.

The one on Craigslist is actually not in much-better condition...

Here's an idea for you... What about making a planter out of it? Line the bag chamber with a plastic bag, fill it with potting soil, and plant a lovely little bush!

Thanks a lot for the "How much is my old sweeper worth" link. I missed that entirely, and only noticed it while rereading this thread today. Very helpful, though disappointing. Per his comments, I might just list it on Ebay for the purpose of "finding it a decent home".

A planter! LOL. To me (untrained eye) the $40 specimen on Craig's List looks almost new. It looks a lot more like my Mom's did back in the days when I was familiar with it "at eye level". Just out of curiosity, what is it about that $40 vac that makes you say it's in only slightly better condition than the "well used relic" at my house?
