Well I wouldn't be so harsh.
Having just seen a video on You Tube from AchooAllergy.com, it looks like it has a far better vibrating action than the Vax VCU02/Hoover Signature that I have. It doesn't vibrate carpet at all. True, whilst so many older uprights have beater bars and do the same thing, the marketing speak of the vibrating pad isn't exactly new (Samsung adopted a similar principle with their suction only floor heads a few years ago with a similar "Sani-Punch" plate that vibrates.) However, for a lightweight bagged upright that has a brush roll on/off switch alone, it would be good to see this for sale in the UK. I like the locking bag mechanism of the dust bag on this machine too (shown in the second video link) |

I think uprights that don't have a hose built in isn't necessarily a bad thing. One could so easily say that the UK doesn't have a market for cylinder vacs with PN's instead. Due to the UK having so much carpet, a lot of home owners still have those classic Hoover uprights - and they don't come with a built in hose.

They might still have it but when it comes time to replace it, They tend to want something with built in pipes. I am not saying its not a good vacuum or saying that there isn't a market for a standard upright vacuum, Just not a big enough market for one at those prices.
On this Forum we all get upset about modern vacs and wish they still made vacuums like they used to years ago but the truth is we are a minority. If customers wanted vacuums like they were made years ago Vacuum company's would make them but they don't. Today its all about convenience. I speak for my self here aswell, when I get to use my vacuums on say the weekend or on Holiday I love to use my royals, I love the purr of the motor, The brilliant shine of the polished aluminium, the way the bag blows out, But in my modern home with two young sons , pets and various floor surfaces its not a vacuum I can use every day. No for that I have a New Dc51. During the week I am just another consumer looking for the fastest way to get the house clean after a long days work and before dinner. |

The Vax doesn't vibrate the rice at all in the video - and both machines left a bit in the first sweep.
I think I am biased - you see - I like bagged uprights - so I'm prepared to give the SonicUpright a fair chance. I think I'd be at two minds if it was bagless, but I still like the fact that there's a brush roll on/off function on the handle. 10 lbs weight equates to 4.5kg or there of, which is comparable to a few emerging lightweights. You could argue and say that ideally speaking, the only "tech" that this upright brings is the Sonic plate, but does that also mean there's a UV light as well? |

I'd be willing to give it a fair shake, I suppose - though the agitation doesn't *seem* to be any better than a Simplicity Freedom / Riccar Supralite, and it doesn't seem to pull dust toward the nozzle the way Royals, Sanitaires and most of the Tacony uprights do. |

is that other vacuums like new saniares and other direct air vacuum dont have hoses like hoovers convertibles had with the converter plate, they have the suction to do hose cleaning but most people seem to think that if you dont have the suction to suck up mount rushmore that its not strong enough to suck up crumbs off the sofa.

Isn't the Soni-Clean system sort of like the Eureka "Vibra-Beat" system? |
