Whilst clearing out in the depths of our shop today, we came across a Ametek DC01 motor new in the box I forgot we had (for those who don't know, these are impossible to get now). Initially, we put it on our news section and social media in order it may find an enthusiast out there.

However, on further thought, it occurred to me that we still have some brand new bins for DC01's, a bunch of good duct assemblies to choose from, new wheel sets, maybe one genuine hose left and most other stuff in good condition or new. So we *just about* have enough new or excellent stuff to build an absolutely pristine DC01.

We normally sell recon DC01's at around £79 (and are withdrawing them from general sale in the new year due to scarcity of good motors and bin catches), but to build such a thing as this would swallow over £100 in parts alone. But it would be pretty unique as superb ones of these are rather thin on the ground now.

The businessman in me says don't build one and simply sell the parts. The Dyson enthusiast in me says build a mint one with the brand new motor, as it may be our last opportunity to do so.

But then what to do with it? If sold we would probably need £200 for it, so it will sit about waiting for a collector - and probably go to a good home. Part of me says build it, box it up and throw it in the attic for a few years, as this time in five years it will be a rare beast indeed. In the latter case, when we expand and/or relocate, it will end up in a glass case probably.

So I thought I would solicit a few opinions here. What say you? Would you build it? And if so, what would you do with it?

I'd build it and keep it for a few years!

Build it..

it is by far the more fun option even if it doesn't make financial sense. When you let money steer your decision making too much life gets boring fast.

CitroenBX, nice machine!  Laughing

I have some books somewhere too.

OK, I'm convinced - we'll build one and hoard it.

In hindsight, I probably should have kept the new one in a box that we got a few months ago.

Stuart, make a better one than CitroenBX's DC01 :P
Come to think of it, you should do a perfect DC02 aswell, and slowly moving on DC03's, then DC04's as Dyson might start to discontinue parts and one day stop DC14 parts too!

Build a minter, forget about it for 30 years, sell it, *blank*, live in the bahamas

Or something like that anyway...

I'll take the lot at a fair price if that is the case and you don't need them.

Brand new parts included: Motor, brushroll, bumper, bin and insert, cable protector and stretch protector, the rest was the best of the last couple of dozen machines we broke for spares.

Last one here......

I got anal towards the end even seeking out early script new tools from our boxes. It isn't perfect, but I am pretty pleased with the end result.

Very nice. Future collectable right there, even if it won't fully sort your pension out!

I'll give you 8 and a half out of 10 for effort :P

The scuffed wheels and the sticker on top of the cyclone lost you points haha

Can we have a pic of the underside of the machine showing the soleplate and brush roll area?

If it's good I might revise my score and give you 9 and a half!

It is however one of the smartest DC01's I have seen for a LONG time

Nice! I love the brushbar, where did you get that?
You need to clean the plastic line for the filter cover cos I see dirt on it. Well done! :D

Well done on your pristine model, Manchester Vacs, besides that sticker it looks factory fresh!

Citroen, your model still shows sticker damage, scratches, wear marks and dust.

Matt, I actually didn't take one of the underside (and its bagged up in the attic now), but the brushroll is new. The compromise was a grey cradle.

Citroen BX, I'd love to have a new red cradle for that machine and some new purple wheels if you can spare them at reasonable money? Or I'll swap you something you need or whatever.

Any of that other new DC01 stuff you want to sell, I'll have a go at too. Contact info in the link.

Hey, while you are about it, whats with the grey cable clip and missing soleplate rubber tag on yours? You are slipping. Cool
