Replacement Hose Options? (Rexair Model B) |

Hey all
I just got a beautiful Rexair Model B canister for Christmas this morning, and I am thrilled to say the least. I am NOT thrilled by how badly the original hose leaks! I was wondering if I could get a new plastic hose and use the machine end from the original hose. Is this possible? Or am I just stuck with a hose that leaks like a sieve? Any tips would be fantastic. Thanks! | ||

For a vacuum cleaner of that vintage, you may want to get a replacement hose made of plastic. However, you should most definitely keep the original hose. There are ways to repair it by treating the inside with latex rubber, that will stop the stop the leaks letting you use the hose. One of the experts in this process is my friend, Charles Richards Lester. I suggest you send him an instant message and learn the process. Congratulations on getting this great Christmas present. Hi Jaker15. I'm no expert in repair or restoration, both my friends Charles Richard Lester, and Tom Gasko, are the ones to contact for this. My knowledge is vintage Electrolux, and Kirby, as well as vacuum cleaner history. The picture of the Filtex and others was taken just before they went into storage in 06. As far as the Filtex is concerned, it's not one of my 'must have' machines. I don't have a hose, tools or even know how well it runs, but if you're interested, cover the postage and it's yours.

Hose
I've taken a 1 1/4" wire reinforced hose blank and then put on a wand end from a newer Rainbow, then took a machine end from a Model b or c hose that was trashed. Took the old hose off and using plyobond glued the brass insert in the machine coupler into the new hose. Here's a picture of how it turned out.

I actually made something like that pretty recently, although I rednecked it and used a hose clamp to hold the coupler in place! The new hose works great, but now the bottom bearing on the motor is shot. It went out on me the last time I was cleaning. :( Now I have another project on my hands. Haha!

I've replaced the bearings in my Rexair series A, Model B and Model C. If you replace the upper bearing just remember that the bolt that screws into the armature at the top is a left hand thread. I think this bolt was there to hold the upper bearing to the armature. It's also a good time to clean the fans and get all the mud out of them.
The other thing to remember is be careful when you take the lower plate off that you don't damage the rubber gasket that is clamped between the plate and housing as this gasket also clamps into the outer shell and hold the motor in the housing. If you need bearing numbers the top bearing is a New Departure 88500K and the bottom bearing is NDH 3202 BG. I got my bearings from Accurate bearing and they convert to 88500 (for the smaller upper bearing)and 88502 (for the larger lower bearing). Have fun and don't play in the mud too long. | ||
